USB[edit]

"Because it is a USB device, the sound from the TV that the microphone picks up will be filtered out by the Wii." What does being USB have to do with this? Pelago (talk) 21:07, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Presumably the direct connection to the system allows the device, or rather the system itself, to recognise which sounds are from the TV. Since the only sound coming from the TV would be the sound output originally by the Wii itself, the only source, perhaps the Wii can then effectively tell which sounds are from the TV and should be filtered automatically. I suppose the significance of the USB connection specifically is that WiiSpeak will act like an extension to the core hardware, rather than an add-on or peripheral, acting independently and then telling the system the result -much like conventional microphones would. This is just what came to mind when I read this though, but I hope it helps. (If not, feel free to delete it...)

Will wii speak work with any Wii game like super smash bros. or just animal crossing and any games afterwards? 20:10, 21 August 2008

  • If the game has / had support for WiiSpeak built in, yes, it will support it. Otherwise, no. It would just be for games after it's release (specifically, games that have support for it built in) Grayda (talk) 03:55, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Article[edit]

Wii Speak shouldn't be a separate article because it doesn't have enough information to become a article. I think it should ethier go with Anmal Crossing: City Folk or List of Wii Accessories. Gursagar Sekhon 15:10 September 29, 2008

Disagree, article is sourced, relatively little information is available because it isn't out yet. It's a notable product from a large company that will be used by many people. If Xbox 360 Wireless Headset has an article, so should this.Mr T (Based) (talk) 19:21, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's "Wii Speak" not "WiiSpeak"[edit]

Every time Nintendo have mentioned this accessory in writing, they've written it as "Wii Speak". Even on the packaging it says "Wii Speak". I believe that "WiiSpeak" has only been used in transcriptions because people just like CamelCase.  :-P Still, I'm going to fix this. --Super Shy Guy Bros. Not shy? 18:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and as for a source, [1]. I believe the website for the Nintendo Fall 2008 conference also says "Wii Speak". --Super Shy Guy Bros. Not shy? 18:30, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Both of those are more recent. Nintendo did use the WiiSpeak styling in early press material, which is why it was originally used in this article. It wasn't "because people just like CamelCase." Dancter (talk) 18:38, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Old Mikes[edit]

Just a question, if I bought another USB Mike that works with the Wii, will it be the same as Wii Speak, as in, do the same things? Thanks ;Firemaker 9:02, 9 October 2008 GMT

Not likely - at any rate you have to buy a Wii Speak in order to get the code to install the Wii Speak channel... making 3rd party mikes a fairly moot point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.30.84.252 (talk) 22:55, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reference 9[edit]

The article in Reference 9 says "but should also incorporate voice chat with WiiSpeak". Through thoroughly reading it, it's possible that the author thinks it's a good idea to have Wii Speak for The Conduit, regardless of High Voltage's lack of confirmation. -Guest27

Possible Criticism[edit]

I saw some where on a blog that the Wii Speak is being Criticise for the fact that the channel code is a one time thing only. Meaning no real resale value. If I find it again do you think it should be added?Arlj11 (talk) 17:45, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Number of users in a chat channel, Ref #5 "Interview: Cammie Dunaway"[edit]

In ref #5 Cammie Dunaway states:

"IGN: And you can have up to four groups of people on the WiiSpeak Channel.

Cammie Dunaway: It's up to four rooms of people. You could have an indefinite number of people.

This is a deceptive answer... what she's really saying is that: you have four 'locations' you can connect to and chat with at the same time, but because the Wii Speak Mic picks up everyone in the room, you can in theory have 500 people at each location all speaking into the Wii Speak mic, and hear all 2000 of them.

Nintendo's own site [2] states things a little clearer than in the above interview:

"The Wii Speak Channel lets people in up to four locations who have traded Friend Codes chat with one another at no extra cost."

The article here at Wiki states:

"The channel allows users to chat in one of four rooms with Wii Friends using Wii Speak online.[5] There is no limit to the number of people that can be in each room."

Again, this isn't quite right. I think it's clearer to state things the way that Nintendo has in the text quoted above; but I think things could be stated even MORE clearly by just saying:

"The 'Wii Speak' Channel allows UP TO four (4) 'Wii Speak' users, that have traded friend codes, to chat with each other simultaneously."

I hope this makes sense! 68.33.143.168 (talk) 07:54, 28 November 2008 (UTC)JonnyFandango[reply]

Bundled with Animal Crossing?[edit]

I don't get it, do you get one with Animal Crossing? It was released seperately and bundled with Animal Crossing. . .

Yes, at it states, Wii Speak is available separately or in a special Animal Crossing bundle. -Zomic13 (talk) 00:08, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great, I checked the web and all I could find was that is sold seperately, weird. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.209.5.150 (talk) 21:51, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Work on games before November?[edit]

Is there any game that works with Wii Speak that was made before November 2008?Pikazilla (talk) 17:28, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
