The mother of all galleries....[edit]

Ugh..This modest article of about 475 words has a gallery of some 40 pictures!!! (most are more or less duplicates and they are probably still under copyright btw ;)

I suggest that 5 or 6 pictures should be plenty and, I suspect, more in keeping with Wiki rules about the size of galleries --Lubiesque (talk) 18:00, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely. Try the selection so far. And the article could easily be bigger, there's plenty to say given the excellent biographies, not to mention his own books. Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:30, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, very good. Now I feel like to add a picture of my own :)

Unfortunately in his book, Arabian Sands, Thesiger's half-tone maps are printed black and white with no grey (pp. 117, 183, 297, 367), have no coordinates and the travelogue is often difficult to follow. The reason is that his maps do not correspond to modern ones. At that time international borders were only partly theoretically defined. The best map for his late Arabia travels in Thesiger, Desert Borderlands of Oman, The Geographical Journal, Vol. 116, No. 4/6 (Oct. - Dec., 1950), p. 138 does not correspond to his textual description for the years 1948-50.
