This is not the reason why he became a scapegoat. Rather his behavior was a little more serious than that of the other directors, making him a scapegoat for the whole group. In fact, the majority of sources, including Slonimsky, agree that it waa the 21st and not the 22nd. I've made the change. -- JackofOz (talk) 12:50, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

His support for Dutch composers[edit]

I was surprised to read that Willem Pijper was quoted as saying he did little for Dutch composers. The article on Willem Mengelberg in Encyclopedie van de Muziek (pub Elsevier, Amsterdam, 1957) says that he promoted composition in the Netherlands, especially in the Dutch music festivals of 1902, 1912 and 1935 (his 40th Jubileum year), and that he was particularly keen on Diepenbrock.

Perhaps Pijper had a personal axe to grind for some reason?
