Notability[edit]

William Beaumont was not only a powerful landowner in Devon, but he is a key player in a very complex descent of several Devon manors in several directions (Bodrugan, Basset, Chichester). This is because he died without legitimate progeny and his wife produced a bastard son, John Bodrugan. This is covered extensively in Byrne and Beaumont (1929), and in a more summary form by Pole, etc. An article was created for him by me because he is necessarily referred to so often in other articles, existing and to be written, concerning the manors which descended from him, especially to Basset and Chichester, possibly the most important gentry families of North Devon.(Lobsterthermidor (talk) 18:34, 28 October 2016 (UTC))[reply]
