Elphy Bey[edit]

His nickname redirects here, but is not explained in the article. Does anyone have information about it? --KnightMove (talk) 01:48, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was a nickname popular among his subordinates, most of whom held him in low regard. "Bey" is a title meaning "chief," more or less. --Michael K Smith^Talk 23:34, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Flashman?[edit]

I like the Flashman novels, and the observations and opinions Fraser attributes to Flashy are generally pretty astute -- but still, we can surely do better for considered opinions of Elphinstone's character and (lack of) ability than a novel? Fraser himself notes as good sources for the war Gen. Mackenzie's book, Storms and Sunshine of a Soldier's Life and Kaye's History of the War in Afghanistan. --Michael K Smith^Talk 23:34, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
