Uncertain about the date of his death[edit]
Hi, I am uncertain about the exact date of his death. On the Ordinary's Account of the 8th february it says talking about Spiggot "on Monday, February 9, before the Execution" and then it says "on the Wednesday Morning, he again receiv'd the Sacrament in the Chapel, from whence he was immediately after, carry'd to the place of Execution". Therefore I deduce that he was executed on the 11th, the Wednesday. But in the book Tales of the Hanging Court (cf references) it says that he was executed on the 8th (the Sunday). I am a bit confuse and I don't know which date is correct. Any ideas? JMChaleat (talk) 17:22, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
Part 2: the reason for his refusal[edit]
Hi, I am actually working on the second part of the article (you can come and check in my sandbox later on). I am thinking about trying to explain Spiggot reasons for refusing to plead. For this I was thinking about using Andrea McKenzie's "Tyburn's Martyrs" where she interprets it differently. Also I wanted to put the Ordinary of Newgate's point of view. Maybe you can suggest other readings on the peine forte et dure, and how it is interpreted by scholars. Feel free to contact me for contributions.
