"Corruption"?[edit]

The article originally said that he had a reputation for corruption, but my print sources say it was simply a backlash against his action in calling out the state militia against the Klan (see the reference to Wade I've added). The external link that I've added uses the word "corruption" as well, but as the sole example it refers to the militia episode. I think the allegation of corruption here is merely a POVish meme originating in the unpopularity of scalawag governors during Reconstruction.--Bcrowell 16:45, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
