People's Open Network was nominated for deletion. The discussion was closed on 2 March 2018 with a consensus to merge. Its contents were merged into Wireless community network. Link collection[edit]

This is a link collection, not an article about wireless community networks. While it's probably a good idea to use wiki technology for locating free wireless networks, I don't think wikipedia is the right place for it. tobixen 00:16, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"In the U.S. many government efforts to develop public-private partnerships or sole efforts in pursuit of the community wireless and wired network have ended in drastic failure. When initially voted in by the public they are sold as utopian endeavors. However, once financed they may fail to deliver due to poor implementation, competition and poor product offerings.[1]". -- This is not NPOV, in my opinion, and is purposefully misleading. There are several instances of successful wireless community networks (e.g. Google, the MIT network, etc). Moreover, the citation does not support the claim, It gives only a single city as an example of failure (not 'many') and it criticizes Wi-Fi specifically for the poor long-range radio propagation characteristics in the 2.4GHz band (the use of the 2.4GHz band is not an attribute of community mesh networks in general, although common). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.12.221.242 (talk) 22:08, August 29, 2007 (UTC)
