Which British car as source?[edit]

This article claims that the 24/80 was "based on" the British 15/60 model, but that model ceased production in 1961, one year before the 24/80 came into being. The 15/60 was replaced by the 16/60. It seems at least possible (and probably likely) that the 24/80 would have been derived from the up-to-date British model. Does anybody know for sure? The distinctions between the 15/60 and 16/60 weren't enormous anyway, but it would be nice to get this right. – Kieran T (talk) 18:05, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Production Period[edit]

Can someone correct either the text or the info box concerning the period during which the car was produced, please? The info box says 1962 - 1965, but the text says 1962 - 1967. One of these must be wrong. My SPECULATION would be that they went down the production line till 1965, but they were still selling the backlog - and therefore featuring in marketing material (brochures, showrooms...) till 1967. I've a feeling the car did not sell too well, so it's > possible there were a few sitting quietly in a field awaiting customers for a year or two. But this is speculation. It's also possible this timing issue has something to do with Kieran's issue (above). Given the low production volumes, I don't imagine there will have been body presses for these things set up in Australia, so presumably CKD kits of panels - more likely of virtually complete carkits, to the extent permitted by the import restrictions - would have been shipped to Oz for local assembly, and in that way they could easily have been using up kits sent over in 1960 well into 1965. Though as you say, the differences between the two UK market cars really were minimal - bigger engine (which is irrelevant in Aus where they were using a different engine anyway} and the removal of a tiny bit of chrome on each of the front wings and a changed moulding for the plastic cover of the rear lights (without any modification to the surrounding metal). And maybe the odd changed switch or dial inside the cabin?

If my theory is correct then it was produced 1962 - 1965 but it was SOLD 1962 - 1967 and there's no reason not to include both statements. But it would be nice to be consistent between the info box and the text. And it would be nice to have something "sourcable" on this. If only...
