promo changes[edit]

It seems somebody with the WCCU ( User:WOCCU) is trying to use this article as their own page. Much of the info they added was likely valid, but they mixed in it, stuff like "to empower people through access to high quality and affordable financial services.". Also, there's a very high likelyhood that this text is copied from a web site, or some other source, as the same user asked about doing exactly that, and it seems unlikely that in a single edit, they happened to write-up so much promo material. --Rob (talk) 17:42, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Expanding this page[edit]

Thanks to Rob for bringing the potential conflict of interest issues involved with my post made under the username WOCCU. As a new user I was not aware of the COI policy or that I had posted material that was potentially inappropriate to this article. I don't have very much time allocated for expanding this article, and thus did not screen the content for promotional phrases. As recommended in the COI guidelines I would like to express my interest and the interest of WOCCU. Our interest is to make more neutral and unbiased information about World Council of Credit Unions available in this article. We are NOT interested in promoting our products or services, (as they are very specific to credit unions and are member and donor funded) or drive people to our website. I would like to work with other editors to thorough & accurately represent WOCCU in this article. Please offer any advice you may have. Thanks Unespecialista (talk) 20:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifying your purpose. Given a lack of time on your part (as you mention), I think it's best to avoid contributing any lengthy text (in the short term). It's much easier keeping a shorter article properly balanced, with proper inline citations for each claim. If anything in the article is unfair, I suggest mentioning it on this talk page, as your first step. Also, I suggest, it's really your web site (which we link to from the article) is where you want to ensure all the details are kept. Lots of details will be important to your organization, that just aren't important to others, and may not be well covered in third-party sources (which is what we need). I can't see much expansion, until some other, more interested, but still independent, editors, get involved. --Rob (talk) 20:41, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I added a history section, but it looks frightfully short. Anyone know a good source for WOCCU history? Gobonobo T C 10:34, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like there is plenty of reliable sources available for establishing the notability of this organization. It will take someone going through the vast amount of online sources to improve this article. I did some minor cleanup, but otherwise it still needs a lot of more writing to establish notability from reliable third party sources. And those who have been editing with a Conflict of Interest or Close Relationship with WCCU should avoid the types of edits/improvements you've been doing so far - they're not helpful. Please learn more about WP:COI before directly editing the article, OR, bring up helpful information here for other experienced editors to properly include in the article.
