The Top Yacht Builders and Innovation in the Industry[edit]

This article is missing the main yacht builders in the industry. This is helpful for the user to know who the "household name" brands are such as Azimut, Sunseeker and Ferretti.

Also it's missing a thorough account of the innovation in the industry, how the models began and the significant technological milestones as the industry has progressed.

And it would be useful to list the cities of the world that have the biggest yacht chartering presence. (Greendragon23 (talk) 22:50, 1 February 2018 (UTC))[reply]

Dutch yachts[edit]

Currently seem to have no home on Wikipedia at all. Was it not a specific class of ships? This page and/or Yacht (disambiguation) should link to the classes covered by the original Dutch sense, prior to the word simply coming to be a synonym for "pleasure craft".

For example, Lamey Island Massacre discusses the yacht Beverwijck, whose crew were massacred by the Liuqiu Islanders. Where should "yacht" link? It was a wind-powered pirate-chaser, not a motorized toy. — LlywelynII 23:52, 30 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yacht a Ship?[edit]

Is a yacht a ship, or sometimes a ship? If sometimes a ship, when?--Dthomsen8 (talk) 18:23, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dthomsen8, some superyachts are big enough to be considered ships. There is no distinct border between a boat and a ship. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 14:23, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disused section on naphtha engines[edit]

I took the following out of the text, because it wasn't sufficiently important:

External combustion[edit]

The steam engine continued as a means of yacht propulsion until the 20th century. In the 1880s the naphtha engine made its appearance in boats. The naphtha engine is an external combustion engine, where the working fluid and fuel are both naphtha, which unusually is also used as a liquid fuel to power the boiler. As with a steam engine, the naphtha boils into a gas to drive a piston and then is recovered as a liquid through condensing coils.[1] Such engines had low power and high fuel consumption.[2]

Pronunciation[edit]

Why ist it pronounced 'yaht', when the original term has a strong 'ch' in it? KhlavKhalash (talk) 11:47, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@KhlavKhalash: same reason reason why we don't pronounce "chew" as "kew". Seriously speaking, language was not created in one day, it was evolved. Also, this is a borderline WP:NOTFORUM question, but not entirely. —usernamekiran (talk) 13:07, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
