Problems in 2009[edit]

Heavy snowfall in late February 2009 closed the line between Gstadt and Lunz, due to avalanche risk. It has never reopened. Whilst the track remains in situ, a project to replace the railway with a cycle path has been promulgated. This is opposed by the Verein pro Ybbstalbahn. At the time of writing a compromise is proposed, allowing both uses.
