Split into two articles?[edit]

So before 2002, there were the original York Region Shooters and the Glen Shields Sun Devils. In 2003, these two teams merged to form what is now known as the new York Region Shooters (this page). Is there any strong reason why the pre-2002 Glen Shields history should be included in this article? To me it would make more sense to split that off into its own article. Yes I noticed that problem before. My originally plan was to rename the original York Region Shooters page to Glen Shields, and incorporate the content from the original York Region Shooters page to the present one. Shotgun pete 1:54, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

I considered that as well, but even though they have the same name now, I don't think that makes the original YR Shooters the "primary" predecessor. My preference is to have three pages, similar to how the Hamilton Tigers (football) merged with the Hamilton Wildcats to form the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and each page is its own article. To be honest I don't believe the original York Region Shooters page contains enough notable content in order to warrant it as a single article. For example the club never qualified for the playoffs, while Glen Shields were a significant playoff contender. Technically speaking I believe the present YR Shooters are the successors (or same organization) to the original YR Shooters as Tony De Thomasis purchased the club from Frank Bisceglia in 2002. I personally believe we should use the first option in order to fix the discrepancy between the two organizations. Shotgun pete 5:12, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

I don't think there's anything wrong with the Shooters (1998) article in its current form. Qualifying for the playoffs doesn't make the team any more or less notable. That's a good point that the Shooters' owner in 2002 is also the owner of the merged club, but there's more to continuity then just the owner. It looks like in 2003, the merged team used the Vaughan Sun Devils name which was actually the same name used by Glen Shields in 2002! I feel like with only 2 articles there will always be some confusion or ambiguity, plus there is nothing wrong with having shorter articles on Wikipedia. BLAIXX 22:54, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
