PROBLEMS WITH CURRENT ARTICLE[edit]

I think the style of writing is not objective enough in this article. Here are my examples:

"This great movement also eventually gave birth or helped to birth several other ministries: World Vision, Gospel Films, and - of course - the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association." It may seem minor, but by what criteria is this a "great movement" and why the "of course"?

"Youth for Christ (YFC) follows the motto of "Geared to the times, anchored to the Rock" in an attempt to help equip young people to minister to each other." That that is the motto and that is a stated aim may be a fact; that youth for Christ follows that motto or attempts these things is an opinion.

"YFC's Church Resource Department aims to serve the local church, right across the denominations, as it works with children and young people, providing all the necessary resources and support for effective Christian youth work, as well as supporting and nurturing local Youth Workers." This is attempting to portray it in a positive light eg. "right across" denominations has unnecessary stress, and there is the value judgement that it does indeed provide "all the necessary resources and support for effective Christian youth work, as well as supporting and nurturing local Youth Workers." and the implication that this is a laudable aim.

The article is riddled with this stye and in my opinion needs rewriting. Faulkling 14:27, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to the issues cited above the article is factually incorrect. It was not started in the manner described by the people listed although they were a part of it. The mover behind this organization is not even listed. I think that it may be time to do some heavy cutting and rewriting.

New text and reference information now added.--Fk27jh (talk) 21:15, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am one of the people who contributed to this problem, when I was still getting into wikipedia, much of the content I added came from Youth for Christ themselves, so yes much of it had a positive emphasis, something I will try better to avoid in the future. Now however we face a bigger problem, practically all modern information about them has been erased, leaving an article that is greatly dated and would not serve to give readers an idea of what this organization is like or their structure now. They have changed much over time, from rally to other forms of ministry to what they do today. In addition there seems to be confusion about what should be on this page. While the first name of this organization was Youth for Christ International, this was quickly followed by Youth for Christ USA and then other national organizations cropped up world wide. So Youth for Christ isn't really an appropriate title, Youth for Christ what? International, USA, France, the operate separately and differently with different ministries, this isn't as much of a top down organization as you see with other similar ministries like Campus Crusade for Christ. I don't want to make a mistake moving foward, and I know I need to rely heavily on references but I would like to receive guidance on the best way to move forward. Do we create different articles for different flavors of Youth for Christ, do we make sub headings under this one article (this could be a very long article). By the way in the interest of transparency I have worked with Youth for Christ for over 8 years and now am going to start working with a different organization (Campus Crusade for Christ). Also, I didn't see what the article was like before the last edit, I don't have time to go through the history right now, but the facts I entered came mostly from here http://www.yfc.net/Brix?pageID=12575 so if there is disagreement then that needs to be reconciled, weigh the sources on their reliability, especially if disagreement comes from Templeton. For him there was some personal motivation behind some of his writings and words since then. (Stephen yfc (talk) 21:21, 9 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]

I have to be honest, on looking over the changes that have happened with the article, it seems there has been more sabotage than attempts to complete the index. Part of the reason I am on wikipedia with a renewed vigor is because I was inspired by listening to a few discussions with Jimbo Wales recentally. He talks extensively about completing the index, how there isn't a limit to space and articles can contain details that can't go into normal encyclopedias do to space constraints. There is a lot of valid information that belongs in here, different parts of Youth for Christ are different, and a single site link to YFC/USA or YFCI don't really do justice to explaining this (including the many other nations YFC groups and how they work, they tend to differ from country to country). What was here was a good start even if it needed sorting, and okay, yes some needed cut. But them someone comes in and cuts anything, and puts their version of Youth for Christ, with little or no knowledge of how it is working today. Even some of the work I have put into it, though it may have needed revising was cut, so that there is no reflection on this organization now, it is an extremely incomplete article. I would help complete it but how do I know that instead of collaborating others won't vandalize my work again. It seems like the spirit of collaboration here is being destroyed so that an archaic view of YFC several years ago can be represented, and I am starting to see why even though I respected wikipedia, many see it as a joke. Anyone can do this to articles, regardless of how much they do or don't know about an organization. I find this disturbing and am saddened by it. Is it really worth trying to collaborate with others to try to complete this part of the index, or are we happy with the index being complete in this area, because if I'm the only one who still cares about this topic, then it isn't worth it, I can just move on to more credible sources of information in the future. It has been several months since my last post, it will have been a year before long, and since my last post, little has changed. The main difference now is that there is a section for what others are saying, and I can see this possibly being brought into question because of objectivity again. Is a press piece really a better source than people who work with YFC world wide? As I have pointed towards before, I am willing to help work on making this article and others like it more credible, but first I need to know that I will be working in a community that values the spirit of collaboration and that no one will pull out any censorship markers again when I and others from YFC have added what we know. Sure, add delete, make it more objective, but deleting everything?!? Citing the history of YFC 30 years ago is barely relevant today, and a press piece barely makes it better, and really all of this just adds to the view that many have of Wikipedia being a joke. I will grant that I am a relative newcomer to this site, I've only edited a few things, a few under another name when this site was newer (a name I have since forgotten). There might be something I'm missing but I've outlined the reasons I'm frustrated, and no one, even those who have stricken past content, are responding. It would be nice to know brighter days are ahead here on Wikipedia. Stephen yfc (talk) 05:21, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Kansas City branch of Youth for Christ had its own television station, beginning in the late 1970's. Director Al Metsker served as the station manager of KYFC-TV, which featured various religious programs and tapes of YFC rallies. The station eventually was sold to Paxson Communications. 192.127.94.7 (talk) 22:03, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Paxson Communications changed the call letters of its Kansas City station to KPXE-TV. 98.88.71.39 (talk) 04:06, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article still requires significant cleaning. Lots of positive POV language is distracting, and the information does seem a little dated (see earlier discussions on this above). If someone more knowledgeable could re-write the article to contain more accurate information, I would happily offer to edit for tone and language. Tgmsfu (talk) 21:33, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
