The hallmark[edit]

I do not konw sho SimsFan is or what his profession may be, but I hope he will do well enough at it to have the Smithsonian devoet a gallery (even a smallish gallery) to an individual retrospective of the work he did - EIGHTY years after he passes on to a better life. I am writing this because Ben-Yusuf is the focus of an INDIVIDUAL retrospective in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. This, to me, is the hallmark of notability. Also, I did include secondary sources, including the link to the online Smithsonian exhibit of her work. Elan26

===============[edit]

This is the correct listing for this artist according to the Getty Union List of Artist Names. There is another article under Zaida Yusuf that should be merged into this one. Lexaxis7 (talk) 23:07, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. Unfortunately, the article under Zaida Yusuf has been completely copy-pasted from http://www.npg.si.edu/exhibit/zaida/introduction/index.html. Mabalu (talk) 02:18, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've turned Zaida Yusuf into a redirect here (it seemed only logical, especially as after removing all the copy-pasted stuff, there was no entry left on the other page...) and have made a start on expanding this article, using the info from the website without copy-pasting directly, and correctly referencing/acknowledging it. Muslim or Jewish? Or other?[edit]

I couldn't find anything to indicate the subject's background, so have removed the "American Muslims" category. Her father did lecture on Arab culture on behalf of the Moslem Mission Society[1] but to suggest that this automatically makes him Muslim is disingenuous - (he probably was, but there isn't anything explicit to indicate so.) It's even less disingenuous to assume that his daughter would have followed in his footsteps, as I have seen nothing to indicate her religious beliefs. She could just as easily be an Algerian Jew or have converted to Christianity, there just isn't evidence unless it's in the book written about her. (which I've not seen).
