Bill Hansell

  • ... that Oregon state senator Bill Hansell has made multiple attempts to have the potato officially designated as Oregon’s state vegetable? Source: An Oregon Capital Insider article dated 2 March 2023 that reports Hansell’s retirement says: "Unless he can convince his colleagues during his remaining time in office, Hansell will leave (the state senate) without accomplishing one of his most consistent goals: Enshrining the potato as the official vegetable of Oregon."

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - minor problem
QPQ: Done.

Overall: @Orygun: Good article. Though, i'm not so sure that the hook should say "has made multiple attempts" considering both the cited quote and the article doesn't state that he made multiple attempts at doing this. I feel as if that should be changed a bit. Onegreatjoke (talk) 18:08, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

  • Source says getting the potato designated as state vegetable was "…one of his most consistent goals…" I my mind that implied multiple tries. Also, Ref 2 says: "… he keeps trying to get potatoes enshrined as the state vegetable." In any case, here is another hook for consideration. Believe it fits source text better.
ALT 1 ... that it has been a goal of Oregon state senator Bill Hansell to get the potato officially designated as the state vegetable?
Hopefully, this hook works better.--Orygun (talk) 22:14, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
Hook works better. Onegreatjoke (talk) 20:05, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
@Bill Hansell: you should consider cleaning up some of the prose: Some conversational prose like "On the other hand" or "On the lighter side" should be changes so that the article is encyclopedic. Also the name "Hansell" is used 22 times in the article. Consider using "he" in some instances. Bruxton (talk) 19:34, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
@Bruxton: did you ping Bill Hansell? Onegreatjoke (talk) 20:15, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
Doh! conversational prose got distracted, thank you.
  • @Bruxton: I removed the two conversational phases mentioned above. One required a re-write of the paragraph since it separated two examples that made opposite points. Also, replaced "Hansell" with "he" in 8 places...hope that's enough to get DYK approved.--Orygun (talk) 20:22, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
