Climate of Triton

  • ... that Neptune's moon Triton has thin clouds that are likely made of nitrogen ice crystals? Source: McKinnon, William B.; Kirk, Randolph L. (2014) "Encyclopedia of the Solar System" Chapter 40 - Triton https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/B9780124158450000402 (on ScienceDirect) Source says: At the limbs, clouds could be distinguished from haze by being optically thicker and localized both in height (10 km or less) and in horizontal extent (patchy, and mainly concentrated at mid to high southern latitudes, where they cover one-third of the limb). The sharp upper boundary of the clouds suggests that they consist of condensed nitrogen rather than involatile solids like the haze. (p. 873)
    • ALT1: ... that Neptune's moon Triton has a southern polar cap of frozen nitrogen which extends almost all the way to its equator? Source: Brown, Robert H.; Kirk, Randolph L. (1994) "Coupling of volatile transport and internal heat flow on Triton" https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1994JGR....99.1965B/abstract (NASA ADS) Source says: ... what seems to be a bright, massive south polar cap that extends nearly to Triton's equator ... They [Moore and Spencer] hypothesized that Triton's south polar cap is primarily a permanent deposit of nitrogen.

  • I like the first hook the best, and it certainly checks out with the source. Article seems presentable; new enough, no evidence of copyvio, well-sourced, and well-written (and of course, long enough.) I don't have any suggestions for alternative phrasing, so seems like we're good to go, as no QPQ is needed for you. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 17:29, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
