Cymmer Colliery explosion

Created by RLO1729 (talk). Self-nominated at 03:47, 28 January 2020 (UTC).

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: @RLO1729: I am unable to find that exact quotation on the page cited. Can you please provide the line or approximate location on the page that it occurs on? Also, it does not appear that you have done a QPQ; have you nominated fewer than 5 DYK hooks? Ergo Sum 23:30, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

@Ergo Sum: Thanks for the review. The quote is on line 7 of the cited page 141. I've moved the opening quote mark in the hook slightly as the original text actually has "the" rather than "a", so the quoted text now begins at "sacrifice". This is my first DYK nomination, but please also see the next nomination below for the Nolte/Kuiil DYK. RLO1729 (talk) 00:44, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, I now see the Nolte/Kuiil nomination has been moved off this page since yesterday. Please see Kuiil. RLO1729 (talk) 00:47, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

ALT1:... that in 1856 the Cymmer Colliery explosion resulted in a "sacrifice of human life to an extent unparalleled in the history of coal mining" of Wales?
@RLO1729: Ok, it looks good now. I've added ALT1 above, which is a slightly more streamlined edit of the hook, which may or may not be preferable. Ergo Sum 01:03, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
@Ergo Sum: Thanks for the ALT but I think it adds interpretation to the quote. I placed the "in Wales" after the colliery name to give the colliery's context but the Mine Inspector's report was written to HM Secretary of State and the British parliament so, while a little uncertain, "this country" most probably refers to Britain, or at least England/Wales rather than just Wales (in which case the Inspector would probably have said "the Principality"). I'd prefer to stay with the original version. RLO1729 (talk) 01:14, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
