General Union of Negro African Workers[edit]

Created/expanded by Soman (talk). Self nom at 15:38, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

New enough, long enough. Who translated the black in the name to Negro - is that an official translation? I think in para 3 you need to explain that the World Federation of Trade Unions was connected to the Soviet Union, and you don't say what CGTK is. You imply the connections but you need to state it more clearly. In paragraph 5 you need to say what the referendum was - is there an article to link to? I am guessing it was about remaining a French colony but you don't say that. I also wonder whether this article should be under its French name. Apart from that - this is a great article on African trade unionism. Thank you for writing this. Secretlondon (talk) 07:46, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the feedback. I'll adress the issues you mention. The English name GUNAW is used by the organization at the time of the 1959 congress, see [2] . But this name is not used in any other literature, I feel a bit ambigous whether to use English or French name for the article. --Soman (talk) 07:50, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
I think if they used that English translation themselves then that is clearly the translation to use rather than 'Black'. Secretlondon (talk) 07:54, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
I've added 'pro-Soviet' as description of WFTU, and clarified CGTK link to WFTU. Also added link to 1958 referendum and clarified that a 'No' vote meant independence. --Soman (talk) 08:00, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Great - I've tidied a little bit. Should CATC be all in lower case?Secretlondon (talk) 08:20, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes, French organization names should be in lower-case except for the first letter and names of countries. --Soman (talk) 08:24, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Great! Hook checks out and is referenced. Good to go. Secretlondon (talk) 08:29, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
