Godavari Pushkaram[edit]

The Godavari River on the banks of which Godavari Pushkaram will be held

  • ... that the Godavari Pushkaram (pictured the Godavari River) being held from 14 July 2015 is also called Maha Pushkaram as it is an festival that occurs once in 144 years?

Created by Varmapak (talk) and Nvvchar (talk). Nominated by Nvvchar (talk) at 14:49, 5 July 2015 (UTC).

  • New enough, created on June 29 and nominated on 7th day, July 5. 5002 characters (833 words) exceeds 1500 minimum. Prose is neutral, line line citations are noted and there appears to be no close paraphrasing. Hook is 172 char thus under maximum, is interesting and it is verified in the sources cited. QPQ completed. Appears GTG. Hope you make front page on the day of the festival. Being even a tiny part of an event that only occurs once every 144 years is pretty awesome. Thank you. • This article also appears to be a content fork of Pushkaram, with much of the same information, only explained less clearly. Yoninah (talk) 22:07, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: @Gilderien: Thanks for the review. Pushkaram is a festival which relates to all the 12 sacred rivers and the 12 signs of the Zodiac. But this is a special festival of Maha Pushkaram held for the Godavari River only for which there is no other article. The title of the article could be changed to Maha Pushakaram if you feel so. I have taken some background information from the Pushakaram article, and referenced it to a book. If it is objectionable then that part of the text can be removed and whatever is relevant to the Godavari River only can be retained. I have fixed a reference to the tag and also done some copy editing. Please see. --Nvvchar. 00:03, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your response. 1) The title has to reflect the article, so please decide if it should be Godavari Pushkaram or Maha Pushkaram. 2) Please define "Maha Pushkaram". The article states, It is called Maha Pushkaram as it is the 12th time the 12 year Pushkaram cycle is being held – does "Maha" mean "144" or something? 3) The Background section is a wall of type. Please add some paragraph breaks. 4) The Facilities section reads like a promotional brochure. Yoninah (talk) 00:12, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: I have changed the title of the article to Godavari Maha Pushkaram and recast the lead. On Maha, there is no explanation in the references but in Sanskrit 'Maha' means "great". As it is a festival when millions of people who are aware of this religious event take part, I have only given factual information of the events that have been announced by the Government and not for publicity purpose. It is left to you to take a view. No issues, I can delete that section. Keeping with this change of title I am proposing:
  • ALT1 Hook ... that the Godavari Maha Pushkaram festival (Godavari River pictured), being held from 14 July 2015, occurs once in 144 years?--Nvvchar. 01:44, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Thank you. I went through the article and copyedited it some more. There is now a double redirect in the article for Godavari Pushkaram. It is also not clear how long the festival lasts; in the lead you say it is 12 months long, but under Festival Dates you say it is only 12 days long. There is no inline cite for the ALT1 hook fact. Yoninah (talk) 08:32, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: Thanks for the copy edits. Sorry I could not reply last night as I was busy with guests at home and I had recast the lead in a hurry. The festival is theoretically held through out the year of Jupiter's stay in Leo but the first 12 days are the most attended by pilgrims. I have fixed reference for this. I have also fixed references for the hook and at other places. --Nvvchar. 13:34, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Thank you, we are set. ALT1 hook ref verified and cited inline. I tweaked the grammar in the hook. The article reads well and is properly cited. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 13:46, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
