Article is new, long enough, neutral, and cites sources. Earwig finds no copyvios. I added an alt text to the image in the article. The DYK facts are cited in the article, and I was able to check the facts in the cited paper. Hook is short enough and interesting. However I'd suggest rephrasing the hook a little though to make it clearer as follows:
... that the extinct mooneye fish Hiodon woodruffi (pictured) was not described until 1978, although the earliest finds date to 1906?
