  • Thank you for taking the time to review my submission and giving valuable advice. However, I have some concerns regarding Alt 2, as it implies that nobody transcribed the speech which is probably not true as some journalists wrote it down in shorthand as it was delivered. Therefore, I would still prefer my original or Alt 1, but I take your point that they might not be the most interesting hooks. Maybe someone else has an opinion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WatkynBassett (talkcontribs) 16:18, April 26, 2022 (UTC)
  • Honestly, at this time of war, I am leery of hooks that whiff of genocide. --evrik (talk) 21:54, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
  • This is in fact a point I take to heart. Maybe we then could use a negative view of the speech as a hook?
  • Alt 3 ... that the former Chancellor of the German Empire, Bernhard von Bülow, called the 1900 Hun speech the "worst speech of that time and perhaps the most damaging that Wilhelm II's ever gave"? WatkynBassett (talk) 14:09, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Approving Alt 3 for the promoter. --evrik (talk) 15:15, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
  • I offer the following for the promoter
  • Alt 3a ... that the former German Chancellor, Bernhard von Bülow, called Wilhelm II's 1900 "Hun speech" the "worst speech of that time and perhaps the most damaging that Wilhelm ever gave"?

  • Wow, that was quick! Alt 3a works very well for me. Thank you for your kind offer, which I gladly accept! But I would suggest one final change, as I have now found an authoritative translation of the specific statement by Christopher Clark. Therefore, I would suggest the following Alt 3b :
  • Alt 3b ... that the former German Chancellor, Bernhard von Bülow, called Wilhelm II's 1900 "Hun speech" the "worst speech of that time and perhaps the most disgraceful speech that Wilhelm II [had] ever given"? WatkynBassett (talk) 15:41, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
