I Sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter

  • ... that the short story "I Sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter", intended to subvert a transphobic Internet meme, was retracted after accusations of transphobia? Source: Flood, Alison (17 January 2020). "Sci-fi magazine pulls story by trans writer after 'barrage of attacks'". The Guardian. Retrieved 17 January 2020.: "A science fiction story that repurposed the transphobic meme “I Sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter” as its title has been removed from the magazine Clarkesworld following a “barrage of attacks” on its transgender author. Ok, the article is new enough, long enough, free of close paraphrasing, and generally within policy. The hook is short enough, interesting to a broad audience, and cited. The article is neutral, and examines the various sides of the controversy spawned by the short story without bias. QPQ is complete. I have three small issues that need to be addressed before I give this the green check:

  • The article claims that the story was removed from the website on January 15, but the source cited makes no reference to the date of removal. Do you have a source directly stating this?
  • You have several direct quotes without an inline citation at the end of the sentence. In all instances, you cite the source later in the paragraph, but they should really come immediately after the language they cite.
  • The language "Clarke wrote that the story had been subject to many revisions and it had been seen by trans sensitivity readers" should say something like "Clarke wrote that the story had been subject to many revisions and had been reviewed by trans sensitivity readers". The bolded language in the first quote is a needless direct copy of the cited article.

Spirit of Eagle, thanks for your review. I've edited the article to address these points. The date is now cited to File770, which is dated to 15 January and states that the story was removed "today". Sandstein 08:14, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
With these edits, the hook is good to go. Good job on the article. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 02:47, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
