- Hello again; all looks fine for this DYK, but have a couple of quibbles to resolve.:
- 1. at the end of the main paragraph is this : "Although Muri's torpedo had missed its mark, the mission was successful as the Akagi was sinking after being attacked by a group of Douglas SBD Dauntless aircraft during the battle. The carrier was later scuttled." This material is not referenced, and I don't recall seeing it while perusing the sources. Also, it says the carrier was sinking, implying that it eventually sank; however, if it was scuttled, that tells me that it didn't sink from battle, and instead was deliberately sunk later. So, if you have a source for this, perhaps you can resolve this seeming inconsistency.
- 2. Though this is not your doing, I am troubled by a reference to "Watertown AFB". I may be wrong, but I would just about bet my bottom dollar that such a place never existed. I did some google searching, and actually found a wikipedia article on Watertown Regional Airport where some bomber training took place during WWII, and this is undoubtedly what your source was referencing. Also, I bet if we were able to access Muri's military record, it wouldn't call him a base commander, since there was no base there. Since Watertown AFB is in your source, my recommendation is to wikilink this supposed AFB to the regional airport.
- 3. I am puzzled as to why Custer County High School should not be linked. Please clarify. Sarnold17 (talk) 23:09, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- 4. Oh, I changed this in the article, but not the DYK. Muri flew with/along/down the flight deck of the carrier, not across it, since that is the only way he could avoid the guns. This is shown in the nice artwork in one of your references.Sarnold17 (talk) 23:17, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- 1: None of the original source(s) talk about the fate of the carrier so if it needs removing, I will do that. The Akagi article talks about the relentless pounding it took from a group of fighters and bombers that morning. Muri's name is not mentioned, but his group's bombing was part of the damage which started the fires and led to the scuttling. I changed and sourced that info from the Akagi article, which came from a book.
- 2: The "base commander" bit has been fixed. It was apparent glorification from the source. He commanded a detachment unit at Watertown which later became the airport. Fixed and wikilinked.
- 3: The wikilink for Custer County High School is in Westcliff, Colorado. Muri went to the one in Miles City, Montana (which is added in an editor's note beside it).
Article is new enough, long enough and meets policy guidelines. Hook is short enough, interesting, and factually correct. Nice article and interesting!Sarnold17 (talk) 02:38, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
