- More than 1500 words. No copyright violations. Article only uses one reference for everything in the article although that reference was published by the NYT and written by a history professor that works at the University of Sydney (Shane White). The article actually states that James McCune Smith noted him as the only black millionaire in New York to disparaging him (Hamilton) for the crassness of his pursuit of wealth. Outside of wishing that White had included a reference, that may have been an unsubstantiated claim created to disparage Hamilton. For the good of the article and the DYK, we could really use more references. This will help clear up the validity of the claim. I also think that the DYK should note who made the claim. - Thanks for looking over this. Here's the part of the Times article about Smith's statement: "the black intellectual James McCune Smith noted Jeremiah G. Hamilton as 'the only black millionaire in New York,' disparaging him for the crassness of his pursuit of wealth." In itself the phrase "the only black millionaire in New York" says nothing about Hamilton's purported crassness, and thus does nothing to disparage the subject. That's the only part I included in the Wikipedia article. I adjusted the lead sentence to note Smith was the one who made the claim.
- I agree that the article could use more references about Jeremiah Hamilton, but, as the Times article notes, "modern American historians have ignored him". I've searched Google, Google Scholar and JSTOR, and the Times article by Professor White seems to be the only feasibly accessible reliable source on the subject. White is writing a book about Hamilton that will contain many more references, but the Times article seems to be the only one available for now. Emw (talk) 14:23, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Per discussion at WT:DYK, this nomination is being pulled back from the prep area where it was promoted to allow it to wait for new photographic material being obtained next weekend via Wikipedia Takes Brooklyn. Creator/nominator Emw will post here when the material has been loaded to Wikimedia Commons, cleared there, and added to the article. - George, absolutely not. You left the decision to someone else—me, as it happened—which was to allow pictures to be taken over this past weekend, loaded onto Commons, which was expected to take up to a week, with a deadline for a response from Emw of September 14 even if the pictures are delayed. Today is September 10: you are four days early. I am asking you to permanently withdraw from acting on this article's nomination and leave it to others to complete. Thank you for your cooperation.
