Ralph Curtis, Desmond Uniacke[edit]

Hermann Göring shot down aces Ralph Curtis and Desmond Uniacke.

Created/expanded by ACP2011 (talk). Self nom at 22:38, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Since the expansion of the first article (Ralph Curtis) started on March 13, I think that technically this should have been entered under the 13th. But I think that was a mistake done in good faith. That taken into consideration, this is new enough and long enough. And there does not appear to be any image issues. I am not done with this review, but so far I have to say that "Ralph Curtis, Military career" is one heck of a long paragraph. Please break it up. Also, the citations are not formatted correctly. Please use the proper template for citations. For example, #6 is a book. You can get the information by clicking on "about this book" at the google books site. Then click on "cite" (above) and a drop down will appear on the top left. Select "book" and then fill in the form. I am afraid that it looks like all the citations have to be done. If you make these corrections I will continue the review. Good topic.--Ishtar456 (talk) 14:04, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. I must not understand the dating process of the DYK nominations. I'm still pretty new at this. It was my understanding that a nomination was dated within 5 days of the date of creation of an article. I started it from scratch on 13 March 2012. It wasn't an expansion. Then, on 15 March 2012, I moved my work from User:ACP2011/Ralph Curtis to Ralph Curtis. My understanding is that is when a page goes "live" and is the date of creation. However, I am almost finished with a major expansion of "Vernon March" that I was considering submitting today. I have been going under the assumption (I haven't received a clear answer on this yet) that the date would be the date the expansion was finished, not the day that it was started. If someone could clarify the rules about dating "from scratch" articles and "expanded" articles, I would appreciate it. I don't want a submission to be considered invalid because I unknowingly put it underneath the wrong date. Also, one of the more experienced Wikipedians one time went through one of my articles and altered my references such that "Retrieved ..." appeared at the end of most of them. I assume that it the type of template to which you are referring. Thank you again for reviewing my article. Anne (talk) 16:08, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

The date you submit it should be the day you started it or moved it from the user space. No big deal in this case. The citations are a bigger concern. I hope you can follow the directions I gave to you. It is more than just the retrieved dates. You have time, as long as you are progressing on it. When you are finished let me know and I will continue.--Ishtar456 (talk) 16:29, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. I'll work on the citations today. I'll also break Military Career into two or three sections. Anne (talk) 16:46, 25 March 2012 (UTC) I have split Military Career for Ralph Curtis into two different sections. I hope that meets with your approval. Also, I have tried doing my first reference with one of the approved templates. I thought I'd start with #6, since you used it as an example. I didn't know what ref name and ref group referred to, so I left them blank. Also, I left location blank because I couldn't find a location for Osprey Publishing on the book page. There was a box for pages. I was uncertain as to whether that referred to the length of the book, or the page that I used. I assumed it meant the page used. Also, there were boxes for only one author, so I only included Guttman. If this meets with your approval, I'll go ahead and do the rest of them. Thank you. Anne (talk) 19:24, 25 March 2012 (UTC) I noticed that there's no provision for access date for a book. Also, I just did my third, which was ref #1 for Ancestry. There was an access date, but it didn't show up in the citation. Also, I can't give the URL's for any of my Ancestry refs, because it would bring someone right into my private Ancestry family tree. Anne (talk) 20:00, 25 March 2012 (UTC) I notice that on these web templates, there's a box for "Work?" To what does that refer? Thank you. Anne (talk) 20:27, 25 March 2012 (UTC) I've revised references 1-12 for Ralph Curtis so far using the above templates. Thank you. Anne (talk) 21:45, 25 March 2012 (UTC) I have revised all 21 in-line citations! Let me know what you would like me to work on next and whether the references pass muster. Thank you. Anne (talk) 23:11, 25 March 2012 (UTC) I've finished revising all the Ralph Curtis citations again. They're looking pretty good. Thank you. Anne (talk) 16:57, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

  • First article (Ralph Curtis) is ready. I took the liberty of dividing it up into paragraphs. I think that the gallery of planes should go beneath the death section for the sake of continuity. I will now start on the second article. We are getting there. Lucky for you I am home sick today.:0)--Ishtar456 (talk) 17:33, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
The exact same things are needed for the second article: Citation cleanup, break into paragraphs and move the photos to under the narrative.--Ishtar456 (talk) 17:35, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. I have moved the gallery of planes to the bottom of each article, for Ralph and Desmond. I broke military career into paragraphs for Desmond. And I've started revising Desmond's citations. Anne (talk) 23:59, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Just let me know when you are done.--Ishtar456 (talk) 00:58, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

I think I'm getting lost in these different templates. I finished Desmond Uniacke yesterday and I can't remember whether you already know. Sorry. Anne (talk) 17:23, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Yes, I know, that is why the tick.--Ishtar456 (talk) 17:28, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
