The hook is not fully supported by the article, or by the source, both of which still leave open the possibility of sexual signalling. Suggest a hook like: "... thatStauroteuthis syrtensis (pictured) is one of only two genera of octopuses that exhibit bioluminescence?"

Fixed. Thx for reviewing! Rcej (Robert)talk 08:08, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
  • How about ALT2 ... that the octopus Stauroteuthis syrtensis (pictured) glows when frightened, hungry, or horny? Not sure if it would be allowed, but certainly an interesting mix of emotions. Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:01, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
  • lol...I'd go with that. ;) Rcej (Robert)talk 08:31, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I'll ask Hawkeye what he thinks. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:17, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
    • The article merely says that we have no idea what the purpose of bioluminesce is. Therefore, the proposed hook is unsupported by the references. Fortunately, per [1] there are no longer any formal requirements for DYK either, so you are okay! Hawkeye7 (talk) 03:20, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Perhaps adding "may" to either the original or ALT2 would work. We may not have to tick it off explicitly, but the requirement is still there. Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:32, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I don't think this would work without someone having speculated that way in a reliable source. Why not simply: ALT3 ... that the octopus Stauroteuthis syrtensis (pictured) glows but nobody knows for what purpose? --Pgallert (talk) 15:12, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
    • ALT3 Sounds good to me. Hawkeye7 (talk) 17:51, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
