Teraupo'o

Teraupo'o and his family
Teraupo'o and his family
  • Reviewed: New Columbia (Portland, Oregon)
  • Comment: Open to other hook idea as well. Please hold for anniversary of capture on the night of 15-16 February. I think this would be possible given how backlog DYK is right now.

  • Article created / expanded within 7 days before nomination; prose is longer than 1500 characters; supported by inline citations; no copyvios detected; neutrally written; image is freely licensed. However, ALT0 is not very exciting. It's common for resistance leaders, if unsuccessful, to be captured and exiled. Could an alternate hook be suggested that relates more directly to the subject's resistance activities? --K.e.coffman (talk) 02:44, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

@K.e.coffman: Here are a few more hook ideas. KAVEBEAR (talk) 09:08, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

unused hook suggestions

ALT3 seems the best as it focuses on the chief. My suggested modification would be:
@KAVEBEAR: This is shorter, with fewer links, and avoids a piping to Queen Victoria, as I'm not sure that many would understand the "Great White Queen" phrase. In the article it appears to be a descriptor that Teraupo'o and his followers gave to Queen Victoria. This may be too subtle for the DYK hook. Also, the google books link does not work for me. Could you provide a brief quotation from the source? --K.e.coffman (talk) 01:13, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Try: https://books.google.com/books?id=4D8aAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA54 . I do prefer the ALT1 and ALT2 more. Also without piping ALT3 is even even more bland than ALT0 which reference the date that the hook would be promoted on. KAVEBEAR (talk) 01:51, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

  • @KAVEBEAR: Okay, you've convinced to go with ALT0. My one suggestion would be to remove "in a cave" because this detail does not add anything to the hook; it's best to focus on the date since this is when you'd like the DYK to run.--K.e.coffman (talk) 18:12, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
  • ALT0B... that Raiatean chief Teraupo'o (pictured) was captured on the night of 15–16 February 1897 and sent into exile for leading an indigenous resistance against the French takeover of the Leeward Islands?
I removed "in a cave" from ALT0, so that it's clearer for the promoter.
  • ALT0 is approved. Please note that the nom would like the DYK to run on 15-16 February to match the hook. --K.e.coffman (talk) 18:27, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
