Thrips tabaci[edit]

  • ... that though the onion thrips is tiny, it is the most serious insect pest attacking onion crops in the tropics? Source: "Pale yellow to brown, 1.0-1.3 mm long" and "Thrips are the most damaging insect pest of onions in the tropics."
    • ALT1:... that although the onion thrips is under 1.3 millimetres (0.05 in) long, it is the most serious insect pest of onions growing in the tropics?

  • Apologies for the delay. Article is new enough and long enough. References are present for all paragraphs. No copy-violations or other policy issues are found. The wording of the lead sentence " it can act as a vector for plant disease viruses." could be adjusted to " it can act as a vector for plant viruses", with disease feeling a bit awkward there. Also is it possible to get an additional reference for the scarcity of males of the species?--Kevmin § 16:18, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
@Kevmin: Done both. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:47, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: Hmmm, I cant access this at work, but it looks like the male/female composition of the species is more complex then the article here has it right now Arrhenotokous populations--Kevmin § 14:07, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
You probably have sources unavailable to me. The article makes no claim to be comprehensive and it is apparent that in general, there are many more females than males. If you think this needs to be explained, you are welcome to add further information, but I don't think it is necessary for the purposes of DYK. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:47, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
  • I added new material on males of the species, and so a new reviewer is needed. :) --Kevmin § 01:15, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
  • Only a minor issue. Source 3 does not mention that the species are not found on Antarctica. I couldnt verify content with source 2 as its unavailable to me so assuming good faith. Otherwise, article is created on 25 Feb and nominated on 27 Feb. QPQ is done. I prefer the original hook and we have source provided to it. - Vivvt (Talk) 07:00, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. I have added Kevmin to the credits. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:32, 14 March 2017 (UTC)
