Vivian Lee Bowden

Created by Aaron Liston (talk). Nominated by Paul2520 (talk) at 00:30, 26 March 2021 (UTC).

Interesting life and research, on fine sources, no copyvio obvious. Aaron Liston, nice to meet you! The ALT is way too pale for someone without background. Even in the original, I'd like something about the original drawings, such as when made, or even for what, thank just some unfamiliar name, - we can't expect people to be familiar, or even look Duchesne up. - I have some suggestions for the article:
  • Combine the first two sections, and get the marriage in chronology.
  • Get some from the detailed footnotes into the body. (Don't expect readers to look it up.)
  • Write a bit more lead about the impact of her discovery.
  • Consider an infobox.

These are suggestions, not necessary for approval, but worth thinking about ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:36, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the review, Gerda Arendt. Good suggestions; I tackled the first one. Aaron Liston, would you want to take a look at Gerda Arendt's other suggestions? = paul2520 💬 13:45, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Gerda Arendt for the great suggestions and paul2520 for doing the first one. This was a Spring Break project for me, and I am knee-deep in teaching a large class this term, so it may take me some time to act on these. One question - I was hesitant to write too much about Duchesne's importance, since this is about Vivian and not him. But it seems a sentence or two is needed to put her discovery in context? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aaron Liston (talkcontribs) 23:49, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Sure, Aaron Liston. I think Gerda Arendt was indicating that changes were suggested, but not mandatory.
I would be happy to address feedback, but I think things look better now. = paul2520 💬 03:24, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt I added an infobox & did a little of bringing content from footnotes into the body. How's this for another hook?
ALT2: ... that Vivian Lee Bowden discovered the unpublished drawings of early French botanist Antoine Nicolas Duchesne as part of her influential research on the garden strawberry?
= paul2520 💬 02:27, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
Lovely, Paul, thank you Aaron, understand. For our general audience, finding this in the middle of sensations, I'd just turn ALT2 around:
ALT2a: ... that as part of her influential research on the garden strawberry, Vivian Lee Bowden discovered the unpublished drawings of early French botanist Antoine Nicolas Duchesne?
Now you can go and do the same in the lead ;) - say that the discovery was part of her extensive field studies in European countries, not just research at her desk. Tell a reader who will have time only for the lead what to know. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:46, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
How does the updated lead look, Gerda Arendt? = paul2520 💬 12:58, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
