WGVL (TV)

  • ... that WGVL TV's last day on air was also WSPA-TV's first, having fought for more than two years to stop the other station from going on air? Various sources
    • ALT1:... that lawyers for WGVL TV warned that if the FCC allowed WSPA-TV to sign on, it would hasten the "complete obliteration of UHF"? Source

  • Comment: There's a long story here. It's just hard to put in a hook. As to bolding: TV is not hyphenated as the callsign was straight up WGVL (outlets of the day consistently made it "WGVL-TV" which was never correct), but because WGVL radio exists in this market now, disambiguation is necessary.

  • New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. I have struck ALT1 for having too many acronyms which might not be familiar to a global audience, but ALT0 is very interesting. Hook refs verified and cited inline. QPQ done. ALT0 good to go.
