Wang Dang Sweet Poontang

  • ... that a satirical website reported that Joe Biden was energizing donors with Wang Dang Sweet Poontang? Source: Here: "Nugent's classic song 'Wang Dang Sweet Poontang' . . . which the Biden camp has adopted as an unofficial anthem of sorts to energize donors at a number of Zoom events in recent weeks."
    • ALT1:... that a satirical website reported that the Joe Biden campaign was using Wang Dang Sweet Poontang to energize its donors? Source: "You are strongly encouraged to quote the source text supporting each hook" (and [link] the source, or cite it briefly without using citation templates)

Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Awaiting QPQ. I think the original hook is better. All criteria will be met when QPQ is completed. EchetusXe 17:04, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

  • Hook was pulled from the main page after discussion at WP:ERRORS. Reopening per discussion at WT:DYK in the hopes of settling on an acceptable hook. Yoninah (talk) 21:55, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
@EchetusXe: @Yoninah: I propose the following alt hooks:
I am fine with any of the above. And thank you to Yoninah for re-opening the nom. Cbl62 (talk) 22:46, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
The sources for alt2 don't mention the caption specifically (it's in the picture of the tweet), and the news was more about David Crosby's reaction to the photo itself and feud with Nugent. alt3 is just a passing mention that could be viewed as painting Huckabee as oblivious or hypocritical, and he's otherwise unrelated to the song. I present a modified alt1 as alt4. Should attribute the song's author, err on the side of quoting somewhat unique phrase "despicable misogyny", and provide greater context on "rawwwk". The source also doesn't say it's Kot's top five or only five guily pleasures; it's just one of five (of maybe more).

On the notion that fewer links and a little mystery are best for DYK hookiness, I've modified Bagumba's revision as follows:
  • alt 5 ... that music critic Greg Kot described "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" as "despicable misogyny" but listed it among his guilty pleasures because the "rawwwk doesn't get much rawer"? Cbl62 (talk) 07:16, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
I like alt 5 and think it is attention grabbing. I think that's the hook to go with.EchetusXe 08:46, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Sounds like a plan. I've stricken the other hooks. @EchetusXe: Can you go ahead and give alt 5 the green tick? This is the source, and the quote is: "But first here's five of my own: . . . Ted Nugent, Wang Dang Sweet Poon Tang: Despicable misogyny, but the rawwwk doesn't get much rawer."
Looks good EchetusXe 16:52, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
