New enough and long enough, though I'm surprised the article is still so bare-bones. There is a wealth of biographical information in footnote 1. This appears to be the nominator's first DYK, so no QPQ needed (if I'm wrong, please let me know). Neither hook is cited in the article. The paraphrasing is really close in several places:- Source: Whipper was born January 23, 1834 in Norristown, Pennsylvania and named for his uncle, William Whipper, the prominent abolitionist. (...) He moved to Ohio and became active in the abolition movement.
- Article: William James Whipper was born on January 23, 1834 in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He was named after his uncle William Whipper who was a noted abolitionist. He moved to Ohio where he became a member of the abolition movement.
- Source: In the army he had been court-martialed twice, once for gambling and again for insulting a white lieutenant.
- Article: During his service he was court-martialed twice, once for gambling and the other time for insulting a white lieutenant.

- The edits on June 19 did not eliminate the basic close paraphrasing; it's still bad. The penultimate sentence of the "Early life and career" section is simply untrue: Thurgood Marshall was the first African-American justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. The final sentence there simply doesn't make sense as worded. This article needs a good copyedit; perhaps the Guild of Copy Editors would be willing? The nominator, Cliotropic, hasn't edited Wikipedia for four weeks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:00, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
