To mark a proposed policy (or other community document) as dormant, add the following above its lead:

Do not substitute this template.

The |category= parameter can be used to override the auto-categorisation feature of this template. Otherwise, the use of this template will categorise the target page into Category:Wikipedia archives. Use |category=Category:Vegetables to categorise the page into Category:Vegetables instead of the usual category, or use |category= (nothing typed after =) to do no categorisation through the template.

In addition, a shortcut can be added to this template by using the following syntax:

Up to 5 shortcuts can be added to this template in this fashion:
