The CetaTalk banner uses several variables to add extra information to the Talk page.
- Class - the class of the article: FA, A, GA, B, C, Start, Stub, Dab, template, cat, current
- Importance - Top, High, Mid, Low
- Assessed - if the article has been assessed by the project add assessed=yes
- Merge - if the article has been considered to be merged add merge=yes
- COTM - if the article is the current Cetaceans COTM add COTM=yes
- COTM-old - if the article was previously a Cetaceans COTM add COTM-old=yes
- COTM-nom - if the article is being nominated for being a Cetaceans COTM add COTM-nom=yes
- Comments - if the article has had comments, or you wish to add some add comments=yes, and create the new subpage
- needs-image – set
|needs-image=yesto request that a picture or pictures be included in the article to improve its quality.- This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested images of cetaceans.
