protection template

{{editsemiprotected}}

This is missing the {{pp-semi}} template. 76.66.202.139 (talk) 13:11, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Not done: I couldn't find an example of a protected template with a protection template. When I tried it here, it resulted in a confusing display. This may be why the protecting admin chose not to add the template. Celestra (talk) 14:53, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

what about

{{pp-semi|small=yes}}

76.66.202.139 (talk) 06:42, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm still not comfortable with making the change, but I'll pass the request to the protecting admin and see what he thinks. Celestra (talk) 02:23, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Template:2009 swine flu outbreak table has/had a protection template. 76.66.202.139 (talk) 05:51, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't see it, can you point me at time in history? Also, what's the point? Adding the semiprotected template to this template page has a benefit of explicitly presenting that information and the way to work around it but has the negative of distracting from the content. The page is obviously protected (the edit tab is missing and the view source tab is present) and anyone visiting the talk page will see examples of how to work around it. Would you like to transclude the semiprotected template on this talk page to make that clearer?
I'm assuming that the admin who protected the page meant to leave it off and I don't see a good reason to second guess his action. Just the opposite, I can see good reason to leave those templates out of template space to avoid distracting from the content. Celestra (talk) 14:32, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
The template is still on the template, even though it's no longer semi-protected (it's still move protected, I think). AFAIK, it's supposed to have a protection template when the page is protected. And people will not know the page is protected unless they are not logged in. I don't see how it detracts from the information, since the |small=yes is nonintrusive. 76.66.202.139 (talk) 04:25, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Done Fair enough. I didn't realize the effect of 'small=yes.' Our reasonable disagreement about the benefit is moot. Since there isn't a negative, there is no reason not to satisfy your request. Celestra (talk) 13:59, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

I pointed out the small=yes parameter a week ago... didn't you see the effect then? 76.66.202.139 (talk) 03:52, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
I didn't experiment when you changed the request to include 'small', since that only potentially addressed one of my three concerns (no example in template space, confusing appearance, admin didn't insert). Instead, I asked the protecting admin to comment. When you pointed out an example of use in template space, I experimented and found the effect did address the appearance issue. Together, that eliminated two of my concerns and lessened my concern about the admin not inserting it. Even if the admin had some obscure reason not to include it here, it seemed reasonable to add it and discover that reason later. Celestra (talk) 14:44, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Protection?

Why is this still protected anyways? The main article, the main template (country template), the world maps are all no longer protected except against moves. 70.29.208.129 (talk) 13:41, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

To find out why a page is protected, use the 'View logs for this page' link at the top of the history page. The currently active protection log entry gives this reason: "High profile, vandal target, shouldn't rename without *prior* consensus, as naming has been disputed." If you feel that protection is no longer appropriate, you can enter an unprotect request at Wikipedia:Request for page protection. Celestra (talk) 14:36, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I know what the reasoning behind protecting it was, it was the same reasoning behind protecting the main article, and the country template. However, both the main article and the country totals template are no longer protected, except against moves. So this leads to the question Why is this template still protected? 70.29.208.129 (talk) 04:29, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
