Template[edit]

This will obviously be a work in progress, but the idea is to encompass the major weapons (firearms, mainly) of the British Empire 1722-1965 in one handy template! I know that technically it stopped being "The British Empire" around 1948, but the British still had significant Colonial holdings overseas until the mid-1960s, hence the 1965 cut-off date for the purposes of this template. --Commander Zulu 12:15, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Too wide a timescale in my mind or you will have to be more selective in which case the De Lisle carbine should go to give room to more worthy weapons such as the 18 pdr or the 15 inch gun. GraemeLeggett 13:14, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I put the De Lisle in there as a balance to the Jungle Carbine... If you'd like to add the 18pdr or the 15", go right ahead! I realise it's a wide timescale, but I couldn't find anything that had the major weapons of the British Empire in one place- It's useful, I feel, to be able to see the progression from Brown Bess Musket to L1A1 in a table, so to speak. --Commander Zulu 13:23, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted the template to a previous version for categorisation reasons... the layout with the rifles section is designed to be "Muzzleloading Arms/Cartridge Arms/Carbines", to enable identification at a glance.--Commander Zulu 16:15, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is this template really needed?[edit]

It's a very very broad category of weapons, the template isn't exhaustive, and there are much more thorough templates that can be applied to each kind of weapon... The Land (talk) 18:47, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
