Men's / women's team in ice hockey

I suggest that the link for "alias-ice hockey" is changed. Currently, it causes a redirect: "Canada national men's ice hockey team" redirects to "Canada men's national ice hockey team". I suggest that the mw parameter is moved further back in the string to avoid that. (Besides, what's "national men"?)

And maybe the default value should be empty, and the "Canada national ice hockey team" could be a dab page, presenting the alternatives: men's and women's (including junior variants).

Royal Canadian Navy

The Government of Canada has changed the names of Canadian Forces Maritime Command, Canadian Forces Air Command and Canadian Forces Land Force Command to Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force, and Canadian Army respectively, as they were prior to the unification of the forces in 1968. The template needs to reflect this change accordingly.

There is something wrong with the setup for the flag for the Canadian Air Force in {{ Country data Canada }}; it appears to be missing (showing up as a red-link/junk text) on the document page.

I believe, from a quick search of Commons, that the image should be File:Royal Canadian Air Force ensign.svg, but I'm not quite sure where it's missing from in this template.

Official vs. unofficial

Our official flag when I was a kid

Our official national flag until 1965 is still the Union Jack. The Red Ensign was not official, and when we had the opportunity to make it official, we opted for the Maple Leaf flag, the "new" flag as I still call it.
So, there should logically be an "official" parameter that outputs the correct official flag, the Union Jack, with Canada beside that, and not Britain.

I was working on my List of World War II short films page. There's a 1941 Disney cartoon made for our Film Board that proudly shows our national flag – the official one, not the unofficial one.

A super simple solution

1867 is not currently assigned; 1868 is.
Perfect. Assign 1867 to the Union Jack which is in fact correct, and any time that we, or even me, needs to invoke the official flag, we can ask for 1867 and get the right thing.
I am now using the official flag 3 or 4 times on the short films page.

Above I have discussed the requirement for an 1867 variant to return Canada's pre-1965 official flag, the Union Jack.
The official flag prior to 1965 is the British flag; the flags defined here now were commonly used but were unofficial.
Because 1867, the year of Canadian Confederation, is not currently assigned, 1867 could be used to return the Union Jack.

How about "1867-official"?

I don't think there is much precedent around for "pre-", not that I've seen anyway. "Pre-" is open-ended; "back to when?", that sort of thing.

"1867-official" can contrast with "1868-unofficial", or "1868" for short.

Addition Request

It is requested that, in addition to the RCAF, RCN and Army flags, the flag for the Canadian Armed Forces (File:Canadian Forces Flag.svg) be added. I agree. I came to this template looking for the keyword to get the Canadian Forces Ensign, and was surprised that it is missing. Seeing this was requested two years ago, I wonder if there is a different mechanism to request changes to the template. Please add:

I suggest we change the Canada flag output from the standard colour version to the Pantone colour version featured on the Canada and Flag of Canada articles. The Pantone version is closer to the colour used at sporting events, political summits, and other events where Canada is represented, hence why it is used on the aforementioned articles. Battle of the St. Lawrence

There is currently a disagreement over what flag should be used to represent the Royal Canadian Navy in the Battle of the St. Lawrence. The 1921 template here creates Royal Canadian Navy, featuring the Canadian Blue Ensign (naval jack). @Llammakey: insists that we use 1911 template which creates Royal Canadian Navy, featuring the White Ensign (naval ensign), despite the fact that the 1921 template is used across all other Canadian WWII articles, including this one. To prevent an edit war I'd like to have this cleared up here, as a single article is not the place to have a discussion on the use of a Wikipedia-wide template. The only way the White Ensign should be used is if the 1921 template adopts it's use instead of the Blue Ensign. We can't have individual editors unilaterally applying flag templates from the wrong historical era because they disagree with the Country data template. The White Ensign was the flag of the Royal Canadian Navy for commissioned warships until the unification of the Armed Forces in the 1960s. The 1921 change is the Government ensign, used by government ships and non-commissioned warships of the RCN (of which many were former government ships taken into RCN service during WWII) - which still technically applies to the navy since the non-commissioned warships of the RCN would fly the government ensign. Canadian Naval Auxiliary Vessels (CNAVs) in the 1950s would fly the blue ensign, much like the Royal Fleet Auxiliary does not fly the White Ensign for the Royal Navy. I have also notified the WP:MILHIST and WP:SHIPS groups since this applies to ship, the navy and battles during WWII. Llammakey (talk) 12:56, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

As a request - instead of naval-1957 or naval-1921, can we instead put government 1957 to better reflect the nature of the flag. All government vessels flew the blue ensign as a flag except for the Royal Canadian Navy. The first and third identical requests are .png → .svg, and that is understood. However, the second request changes the 1907 .png to the 1905 .svg just above it, and the 1905 flag is different from the 1907 flag.
