As this flag was designed in 1990, its use prior to that was not possible. Please modify to allow the New Zealand flag or defaced red ensign for pre-1990 usage. --Bob (talk) 04:04, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, the use of File:Flag of Maori.svg for rugby union is inappropriate as it is never, ever used in an official capacity. Therefore, it should be removed and File:Flag of New Zealand.svg be used in all instances. --Bob (talk) 22:06, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I notice this was mentioned above by Bob: Flag of New Zealand#Other Flags says that the Maori prefer red flags and that in 1981 this was acknowledged in New Zealand law by allowing special use of the red ensign officially.
