Reference for almost all data used in this table is:

The final two entries, for 1991 and 2001, are simply taken from the census of each respective year.

Table expansion[edit]

I've expanded the table to give three columns for monolingual, bilingual and total, which I think is clearer. Also, I've brought the percentages in beside the actual figures. I think that is much clearer. However I have not yet filled in all the fields. This could be done quite quickly with a calculator. But before we do it, perhaps siarach can just check that so far the figures are all in the right places. This new layout makes explicit what the old one implied, but I have a slight worry that the old one was misleading. For example, did the "bilingual" column really mean only bilinguals, or was it in fact the total? Also, are you quite sure that the figures in the first three rows relate to monolinguals, and not to the total Gaelic community? This needs to be checked again, then we can fill in the rest of the table by simple arithmetic and I think the result will be a big improvement. --Doric Loon (talk) 10:11, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
