Additional template parameters[edit]

As I go through switching out bus route templates for this one, I've mostly just added fields in existing templates. Some I have not however:

Let me know if I should add any of these and what we should do with the parameters out on those pages, since they contain information that isn't visible in the infobox right now. — Bility (talk) 09:40, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could you add |Termini= as alternate to |Start= and |End= --Triglav 2000 (talk) 22:34, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done. — Bility (talk) 23:45, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for implementing. --Triglav 2000 (talk) 00:26, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Parameters for discussion[edit]

The following parameters I believe should be deleted because of WP:NOTGUIDE and the fact they would need regular updating (and sourcing) to keep up with standards:

  • frequency =
  • alt_frequency =
  • time =
  • day =
  • fare =
  • cash =
  • transfers =

Ajf773 (talk) 06:26, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Frequency and span of service (both hours and days of operation) are basic and don't need to be shot down to follow NOTGUIDE. It would be like removing cities and counties from a road article...it's part of the basic definition. SounderBruce 06:40, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • If people want to know frequencies they could just look at the bus timetable, something that Wikipedia isn't. Ajf773 (talk) 07:31, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • For bus rapid transit systems, frequency is a key defining characteristic, so it is permissible under NOTGUIDE. It's similar to how the length of a highway is a key characteristic, while also being a guide-like fact (and thus it's included in road articles). SounderBruce 01:07, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, no need to delete fields just because their use is not appropriate in some articles. Ponyo98 (talk) 05:16, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I highlighted them as non appropriate for any article. Which parameters are only not appropriate in some articles? Ajf773 (talk) 22:50, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • As there has been little discussion on this topic since I first posted it two months ago and opposition only for frequencies, I'll leave those parameters in (for now). However the parameters I'm most concerned with are fare and cash, the reason being that we're not a travel guide and that fares can change at little notice. Any objections? Ajf773 (talk) 02:00, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • This was discussed nearly a year ago and since there has been no further objections I am going to go ahead and remove those two parameters. Ajf773 (talk) 03:17, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Could there be added fields or paramewters that are relevant to tramways such as track gauge and railway electrification. The latter (second) is also useful for trolley bus lines. See also template:infobox tram network Peter Horn User talk 16:57, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There is Template:Infobox trolleybus system which is a redirect. Peter Horn User talk 17:13, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The additional fields, parameters, would be useful for City Circle tram, Melbourne tram route 72 etc. I have also made Template:Infobox trolleybus line as a redirect. Peter Horn User talk 12:52, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Primefac: There is also Template:Infobox tram route, a redirect as well. Peter Horn User talk 22:17, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Frietjes: Perhaps you could look at this. Peter Horn User talk 12:18, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For tram lines or routes it is trolley wire and for trolleybus lines it is Parallel overhead lines. Peter Horn User talk 12:36, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@SounderBruce: Your input please. Peter Horn User talk 12:40, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Peter Horn, Template:Infobox tram line is an unused redirect. given that most tramways (e.g., Île-de-France tramway Line 1) use {{infobox rail line}}, changing the redirect to point to Template:Infobox rail line may be more appropriate. Frietjes (talk) 12:45, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That said, many of the fields of template:infobox bus line would also apply to a tram line, but not really to a rail line. Adding them to Template:Infobox rail line would be an even bigger chore. Peter Horn User talk 13:20, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox tram route is used in City Circle tram, Melbourne tram route 72 and all other Melbourne tram route as well. Peter Horn User talk 14:30, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox tram network may be more appropriate. Peter Horn User talk 15:17, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To redirect Template:Infobox tram route to Template:Infobox tram network would create chaos in some 200 or so articles. Peter Horn User talk 15:37, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Correction. Make that chaos in some 50 or so articles. Peter Horn User talk 23:02, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for additional params[edit]

As i going through switching out into bus route templates, other's that i suggest to add this params by the following:

  • |owner=
  • |speed=
  • |native_name=
  • |character=
