Relegated to?[edit]

Is there a way to show which league the relegated teams got to? --Coppercanuck (talk) 01:32, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You want {{infobox football league}}. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 10:30, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Divisions[edit]

A league may comprise several divisions, such as in the articles in Category:The Football League seasons. However if you included information from all divisions, the infobox would be too big. My proposed solution is to keep the infobox as it is, but re-use the infobox in the relevant "division" section of the article, as well as in the lead. An example of this is here: [1]. Admittedly it isn't the best example as I don't have all the stats to fill in the relavant parameters, but hopefully the idea is clear. --Jameboy (talk) 16:03, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This infobox is really intended to be used on individual divisions rather than whole leagues anyway; the terminology could certainly be tweaked to clarify that. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 11:07, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Should "promoted" explicitly include (and thus repeat) the champions if the champions are promoted? Or does it mean "promoted in addition to the champions as we assume the champions are promoted anyway"? Could possibly do with clarification. --Jameboy (talk) 20:10, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Website parameter?[edit]

Most infoboxes have a parameter for the official website. I was wondering if this would be applicable here (seeing that all parameters are optional anyway), rather than having to scroll down to the EL section? TINYMARK 08:47, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Participants?[edit]

It was quite a surprise that there's no parameter for number of participants. Pelmeen10 (talk) 17:32, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Premiers parameter[edit]

What are "premiers"? Nothing in the documentation explains the purpose of this parameter. --MicroX (talk) 02:11, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's the word they use in Australia to describe the team that wins the league portion of a season (I believe), before the proper champions are crowned via a play-off system. No idea why we couldn't just use a switch on the "champions" parameter, but whatever... – PeeJay 09:21, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TemplateData[edit]

I have added the template data in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_football_league_season/doc but it doesnt appear in this page — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mayankmadan (talkcontribs) 11:13, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template width[edit]

I removed the non-standard width parameters. I don't see any strong reason for not using the default. Frietjes (talk) 14:48, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Frietjes: It is a thousand linebreaks on every article so the inbox gets very narrow but long, we dont need one row for each word. Qed237 (talk) 14:50, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
example? Frietjes (talk) 16:35, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Frietjes: Right now I can point you to the template documentation example to get a feel for it, and it gets longer when "biggest home win" are two or three matches, same for biggest away win and so on. The infobox gets long fast and travels through sections. Qed237 (talk) 17:18, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Here's an example of wrapping that's less than ideal with the default infobox width. I think this particular page looks better with a 33em-wide infobox.—Laoris (talk) 15:27, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
the solution for that page is to fix the wide non-wrapping data content. Frietjes (talk) 17:05, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

First and Last game date?[edit]

Why we don't have parameters for the dates of the first and the last game? Xaris333 (talk) 12:38, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 29 August 2018[edit]

Pursuant to the discussion at Category talk:Articles which use infobox templates with no data rows#Categorisation, I've been looking for templates which are unnecessarily populating the tracking category. It's quite common for this template to be used with only the parameters "prevseason" or "nextseason" (usually both) so the infobox can be used for navigation. But that case triggers the "no data rows" condition. The other parameters that populate data rows are all explicitly "optional". Since this is a common and accepted use, I want to add |decat=yes to the call to the infobox module. I've already done this at Infobox_cricket_tournament Diff/856345363 and I'm just applying the same approach to other templates as I discover them. Other examples where similar template-protected edit requests have been successfully made are at award and sports competition.

After line 71, near the bottom, which looks like:

| below = {{#if:{{{prevseason|}}}|{{align|left|\xe2\x86\x90 {{{prevseason|}}} }}}}{{#if:{{{nextseason|}}}|{{align|right|{{{nextseason|}}} \xe2\x86\x92 }}}}

please add the following line:

| decat = {{#if:{{{prevseason|}}}{{{nextseason|}}}|yes|no}}

Thanks. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 04:23, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Expelled section[edit]

Is it okay if we add an expelled section on the infobox for those clubs that will have been removed from the league during its participation? TB Chigz (talk) 09:00, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 2 January 2021[edit]

Is it possible to add a "Biggest win" parameter, for leagues that don't feature a home/away schedule (or where clubs don't have their own stadiums per se, but play in neutral state-owned venues)? Nehme1499 (talk) 21:25, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That should be straightforward. Can you please link to an example page where it would be used? – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:39, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: 2020–21 Lebanese Premier League. All games are played at neutral venues (only 1 leg, then top 6 and bottom 6 phase). Nehme1499 (talk) 23:04, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Note that |biggest win= and |biggest home win= are mutually exclusive, and |biggest home win= takes precedence, for backwards compatibility. Elliot321 (talk | contribs) 07:20, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Elliot321: Perfect, thanks! Nehme1499 (talk) 15:10, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Teams that are promoted or relegated[edit]

Hello! Is it possible to add a new label concerning new teams for the season. Either if the teams are promoted or relegated to another division. Antigen teams can't be promoted from the first-tier to the first-tier only from the tiers lower down. You can be relegated from the top-tier to the second-tier not otherwise. Yours sincerely, Sondre --80.212.169.236 (talk) 12:19, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we PLEASE have fewer parameters?[edit]

This infobox is overwhelmingly big. Do we, and our readers, really need Biggest home win, Biggest away win, Highest scoring, Longest winning run, Longest unbeaten run, Longest winless run, Longest losing run? Drmies (talk) 02:00, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Most of those are pretty pointless. – PeeJay 12:31, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 9 January 2022[edit]

Change | label16 = Top goalscorer to | label16 = {{#if:{{{league topscorer section|}}}|[[#{{{league topscorer section|}}}|Top goalscorer]]|Top goalscorer}}

It will allow to link the "Top goalscorer" text to the relevant section in the article, and is fully backwards compatible. Deancarmeli (talk) 09:19, 9 January 2022 (UTC) Deancarmeli (talk) 09:19, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 17 June 2022[edit]

Combine total and average attendance data values into one line by the following code:

| data29 = {{#if:{{{attendance|}}}|{{formatnum: {{{attendance|0}}}}}{{#if:{{{matches|}}}| ({{formatnum: {{#expr: {{formatnum:{{{attendance|0}}}|R}} / {{{matches|1}}} round 0}}}} per match)}} }}

and remove data27 and data28. Make this the only option for entering attendance statistics. –Aidan721 (talk) 23:30, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:28, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: Sandbox updated and tested. –Aidan721 (talk) 22:34, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Almost. Since you have asked for template editor permissions, I will use this opportunity to help you become a more careful template editor. First, when you begin to modify a sandbox, copy the contents of the live template to the sandbox and save before making changes. Use an edit summary like "sync from live template". Second, once you are done editing, click the "diff" link at the bottom of the template documentation to ensure that you have not made any unintentional changes, like deleting a parameter that is in use. Please edit the sandbox again so that your proposed changes are the only thing that appears in the diff between the live template and the sandbox. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:36, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Updated. {{{attendance note}}} and {{{attendancecalc}}} added back in. –Aidan721 (talk) 02:11, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
 Done I had to tweak the sandbox a bit. Again, it is best to make a copy of the live template into the sandbox and then make your changes there, so that a template editor can easily copy the whole sandbox into the live template. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:45, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: This is not done. These edits were designed to remove "total attendance" and "average attendance" labels as they can be displayed in one line. They still show separately on 2021–22 Premier League. –Aidan721 (talk) 20:12, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The change has been arrow Reverted. We had to undo the change; see the section below, and Test Case 5. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:26, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I've resolved this test case with my recent edit to add {{{average attendance}}} back in with a conditional to only show if {{{attendance}}} and {{{attendancecalc}}} are not used. –Aidan721 (talk) 04:50, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Average attendance[edit]

@Jonesey95: looks like your recent changes break lots of articles which invoke this template. See 2000–01 Czech First League, for example. This article defines the reference for attendance in the average attendance parameter. But due to your recent edit, the average attendance information never makes it into the article. That means the average attendance information isn't displayed, and also that the reference definition isn't included and the article ends up with an undefined reference and is shown in Category:Pages with broken reference names.

Looks like there are at least three dozen pages showing errors so far -- maybe more, due to cached changes and so on.

Is there a fix forthcoming promptly, or should your change be reverted? -- Mikeblas (talk) 13:47, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like that edit completely removed the average attendance parameter, whether it was explicitly supplied or expected to be implicitly computed. The documentation wasn't updated to remove the parameter, and I don't see any discussion of the parameter's removal here, so I'm assuming it was a mistake and I've reverted the change. -- Mikeblas (talk) 14:00, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This was a good revert. That case was not considered by the editor above who proposed the change. I have added it to the testcases page so that any further development will take it into account. There are a few parameters, like |attendance note=, that were not documented, and one or two that are still not documented. I recommend that documentation be created to explain how references should or should not be used within the parameters. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:48, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New parameter for teams which are new in the league[edit]

Hello! Can you add a parameter for new teams in the league instead of the parameter for promoted?. I mean this can replace the promoted parameter in a better way. 88.89.228.126 (talk) 19:58, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Parameter for number of teams[edit]

I've noticed that some articles used a deprecated parameter ("num_teams") that would display the number of teams. For leagues that have a variable number of teams from year to year (such as those in North America), bringing back this parameter would be quite helpful. SounderBruce 00:38, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
