Other?[edit]

A spear and a glaive seem somewhat out of place in a template titled "... swords." It may not be wise to begin a slippery slope of non-swords on this sword template. Bradford44 (talk) 04:36, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and removed the naginata and yari from the template. It doesn't make any more sense to include Japanese weapons that aren't swords in this "Japanese swords" template than it would to include swords that aren't Japanese. In my opinion, the naginata and yari are as out of place in this template as a rapier or claymore would be. Bradford44 (talk) 03:36, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They are considered swords due to how they are made. Please go read the Japanese swords article. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:37, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note that these are the only two exceptions I would make. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:39, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the sakabatō, be added, amongst "Fictional swords"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.225.28.143 (talk) 00:49, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Order?[edit]

Are the entries in the template ordered somehow? If yes, how? (apparently not alphabetically) bamse (talk) 17:58, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there's any particular order at the moment. Kirill [talk] [prof] 00:08, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why not? ;-) bamse (talk) 08:30, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To be quite honest, because I'm not sure what the right order would be. Doing it alphabetically would be easy, but strikes me as a bit simplistic. I'd prefer something based on chronological development or some other meaningful subcategorization, but nothing obvious comes to mind. Kirill [talk] [prof] 12:57, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Chronological order sounds good, but it might be difficult to know when some of the older weapons were developed. Any time of order would be preferable to the present random arrangement in my opinion. Besides alphabetical order one could think of ordering by length (nagasa). Not sure what to do with shinken in this case, though... bamse (talk) 15:34, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
