Alterations[edit]

user:Mark Miller. Thanks for the thanks. I have altered the template so that the citations are self contained, because one can not assume that an editor will place this template above the references section.

There is a second issue. In the template namespace a "/" is treated as a subdirectory, so it is better to avoid that character. would an ndash "–" be acceptable as an alterative to "/" as this is only to do with the name of the template and not the content displayed in articlespace? -- PBS (talk) 13:49, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand what you mean by "name" a subdirectory. I should not have called them subdirectory (an old UNIX habit). I should have called them WP:subpages. In article namespace the "/" character is treated as an ordinary character, but in namespace talk is has not. This can cause some problems. For example there is an article called "AC/DC" which has nothing to do with "AC" but their talk pages are mixed up: talk:AC exists as does talk:AC/DC, so if ever the article AC is move all its talk pages (talk:AC and any subpages (such as archive pages) will be moved. Because talk:AC/DC is a subpage of talk:AC it too will be moved.

In template space we had such a problem when template:EB1911 was at template:1911. For example Special:PrefixIndex/Template:1911 shows that there is a subpage called template:1911/12 Essendon Bombers dual premiership players.

At the moment this is not a particular problem because there is no page called Template:Miller, but if it is created the name of this template may cause problems in the future. Therefore I suggest that we move it now rather then store up potential problems for the future. -- PBS (talk) 07:16, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
