Font size[edit]

When I, under a former account, made this template, it had a font size of 90%. Recently, User:Pigsonthewing changed the font size to standard (100%). At the creation, I thought 90% font size would improve clarity of the article, as the long lists made the article hard to read. I also vaguely remember that the MoS supported smaller fonts for lists and tables. User:Pigsonthewing changed the font size into standard (100%), to improve accessibility. I understand that argument. Still, I don't like the look of it. (Maybe I should just get used to it.) I don't know what the MoS advises nowadays on font sizes of lists. And I don't want to spend the time to look it up. I support 90% font size for the palmares lists, but I am not going to change it. --EdgeNavidad (talk) 08:19, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed this today whilst browsing (as my editing activity has rapidly declined in the past few months). I think we should copy {{Reflist}} here, which is standard 90% but users can specify to see all such font reduction as 100%. SeveroTC 15:13, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike {{Reflist}}, this template is used for article content. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 15:19, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All I can find in the manual of style is this: (from WP:MOSCOLOR).

Formatting issues such as font size, blank space and color are issues for the Wikipedia site-wide style sheet and should not be specified in articles except in special cases. If you absolutely must specify a font size, use a relative size like font-size: 80%, not an absolute size like font-size: 8pt. It is also almost never a good idea to use other style changes, such as font family or color.

This is very clear, except for the "special case" part. In the table help, font size changes are introduced without comment. And the {{Reflist}} template is apparently considered a special case, without explanation. The talk page does note that there is no consensus about the smaller font for references. Yes, the reflist is not article content, and this template is article content. There is no "rule" for font size that distinguishes article content from the rest, so I think that is not an argument. I now support the use of standard font size in this article, because I don't think that this template should be a special case. If the MoS changes so that lists/tables can have a smaller font, I would change this template back to 90%. --EdgeNavidad (talk) 09:05, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I would argue that use of standard font size in this case actually decreases legibility! A font size of 90% would make it much tidier and easier to read, but still enable those who had difficulty reading it to enlarge the font size if necessary. Palmares ?[edit]

What does palmares stands for ? It should have been achievement Arteyu ? Blame it on me ! 12:56, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's the word used in the English language for achievements of a cyclist. I think it's the correct use of the term :) Although, if you're unsure, I'd take it up at WT:CYC as it's used extensively in articles. SeveroTC 15:06, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Restriction to cyclist's palmares[edit]

I added a note to the documentation saying that this template is only meant for cyclists. This is not meant to discriminate other sportsmen/women, but to have the option to add something on top of the palmares. Maybe we want to add a "source" parameter once, such that the palmares are referenced in the same way. (Actually I think this would really be a good idea.) Another option might be to add a standard explanation to the palmares, like what UCI ratings mean, which results are listed and which are not. (This idea may also work, but I see more problems with this. --EdgeNavidad (talk) 17:03, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect to Template:Div col?[edit]

I suggest that this template be redirected to {{div col}}, which has additional useful features. This template does not have any features that are missing from Div col. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:21, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jonesey95, fine with me. the Category:Pages using palmares start with the source parameter is empty and |sources= has been removed for sometime now. just make sure that you redirect {{Palmares end}} as to {{div col end}} as well. Frietjes (talk) 13:21, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the input. I have nominated it using TfD to avoid any backlash. Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2018 January 15. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:54, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
