Template talk:SMILES

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a template for the SMILES chemical structure representation strings.

At this very moment, its purpose is to just stay as a placeholder for semantic markup of the values. Later it may be easily converted to a link to various external services for displaying the molecular structures and working with them, much along the lines of what Wikipedia:WikiProject Geographical coordinates does for geographical coordinates.

The primary function of this template is to markup the meaning of the value in a machine-readable way, by enclosing it to SPAN tag with CLASS set to a value denoting the variable meaning, therefore allowing its easy retrieval by a postprocessing javascript, implemented eg. by Greasemonkey or by an user modification. I already have a proof-of-concept implementation, to be published. --Shaddack 04:09, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I made the template show its parameter, it does not do anything useful with it now. --Dirk Beetstra T C 20:50, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Forget about it, changed it back, did not understand it's function, now it makes sense to me. --Dirk Beetstra T C 20:58, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
