design compatibility with Subscription Required template[edit]

So that a contemplated transition from use of the {{Subscription required}} template will be seamless in not breaking existing use on pages and in fulfilling editors' existing expectations, in this template the anonymous parameter supports a value of "s" and the "via" parameter supports specifying U.K. libraries as a whole. would like detection of need for a leading space[edit]

As this is not (yet) a template in long use by many editors, it's tempting to place it either with or without a space before the template. It should be placed without a space preceding it because it will add a space anyway. Placing it after a space causes a double space to appear. It would improve flexibility and thus usability if the template detected the presence or absence of a preceding space and provided a leading space only if needed. I don't even know if detection is feasible. If someone would like to look into it and maybe do it, please do. Nick Levinson (talk) 21:46, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Use[edit]

I don't understand the intent. The standard {{subscription required}} refers to the link. The citation templates include a convenience link but there is no intent to imply that the source is only available through the link. --  Gadget850 talk 14:57, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you're referring to the two recent edits to the template doc, I haven't run the Citation template in a sandbox with either or both of the two parameters referenced and the template's source code was unclear to me as to effect, but it appears likely that it would produce a general statement that a subscription is required. However, for some sources, it may not always be required. An editor may prefer a degree of accuracy not available with the {{Subscription required}} template, so this one may serve an article better. I wasn't thinking about the "via" parameter by itself. I don't mind that the Citation template has been expanded, as long as this one is also kept for where it can be useful. Otherwise, long-form nontemplate entries would be needed in some articles, such as some I've edited. Nick Levinson (talk) 00:40, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting[edit]

Could someone please format this so that it looks the same as Template:Subscription required? IE small and grey. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 18:57, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Library only[edit]

Is there a template similar to this, but with the text "Only available in libraries in [country]"? There is a Swedish newspaper database that is only fully accessible from the National Library and a few other Swedish libraries due to copyright laws. --Christoffre (talk) 10:45, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
