Adding old letters[edit]

@Drdpw: I've just added Þþ (Thorn) to this template at the end of this list. I intend in time to add the other former English letters Ææ (Ash), Ȝȝ (Yogh), Ðð (Edh), and Ƿƿ (Wynn). --Thnidu (talk) 09:12, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Thnidu: Actually, I intended this to be a list of currently used letters. IMO, creating a separate list of favorite obsolete letter/English Alphabet (or favorite letter/Old English Alphabet) would be better. Drdpw (talk) 00:46, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Drdpw: (Sigh.) For language geeks, having them in the same list is fun. I'll revert my changes if you think it's necessary, but I'd like to propose an alternative. How about including the obsolete letters in the same list, but with some kind of clear distinction? It could be a subhead-like separator in the list, or adding "obsolete" (or some synonym) to the description text on the user bar and/or using a different background color. --Thnidu (talk) 15:00, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Thnidu: I like your alternative suggestion Thnidu. Thanks for being bold and for your interest in language.Drdpw (talk) 16:50, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
        • @Drdpw: OK, take a look at it now. I've changed the background color to green (not previously used) and added a quasi footnote indicator -- a dagger/obelus, which is used in dictionaries to indicate an obsolete form ;-) -- with the popup text (HTML title) "This letter is obsolete in modern English". I'd still like to add a divider or h2 head to the doc page, but whatever I put in shows up above all the boxes made with usbk, whose syntax and usage I obviously don't understand. η: Got it! Template:usbkbreak. --Thnidu (talk) 17:53, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Drdpw: Okay! I've added the ones I wanted to, plus "long s" ſ which I hadn't thought of till I saw it in Category:Palaeographic letter variants. (Also removed Ezh therefrom, as it isn't paleographic at all.
I'd rather put them into some justifiable order, but that'll wait AFAIC. :-) --Thnidu (talk) 23:19, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category link move[edit]

In all the userboxes in the below section, the asterisks link to the wrong category (Category:Palaeographic letter variants instead of Category:Palaeographic letters).

Letters below this line are obsolete in modern English.
