Queries

  • Are |portal1-name=, etc. parameters needed?
There's Portal:Bande dessinée that someone wanted to add to the banner, they also wanted a link displayed when Euro=yes was checked, but I haven't got to that yet. Um. I'll have to think about the portal params. They track what articles are on the portal(s), so it would be nice to have them. Hiding T 15:09, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
    • Okay, but do you really need 5 of these parameters? Is an article likely to be used on more than one portal?
    • It's probable an article will be on two portals, yeah, Tintin is used on both. There's also a furry portal and a superhero portal. It's unlikely an article would be on more than two, although possible. I can't think of any Franco-Belgian anthropomorphic superheroes, so three would likely be the max, two would be nice. Most of the other portals got deleted. If we ever re-establish more portals, it can be revisited. Hiding T 21:06, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
    • A link to what, when |euro=yes? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:55, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
I think they wanted the portal link to change from Portal:Comics to Portal:Bande dessinée if euro=yes, but I think maybe we need to revise that as the euro work gropup is larger than the area covered by the BD portal. I'm thinking it'd be relatively easy to wrap the portal link in a bd=yes in comicsproj, but I don't know how that would work in the meta banner, would that be a custom hook? Hiding T 21:06, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
It could be done simply with the following:
|PORTAL = {{yesno| {{{euro|}}} | yes=Bande dessinée | no=Comics }}
    • But I'll leave it for now. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:58, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Needed-Class and Current-Class are supported by current banner.
I'm fairly confident we don't use either needed or current. I just believe in slow deprecation. :P Hiding T 15:09, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, neither are supported in new version. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:59, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
  • B-class checklist on current banne doesn't auto-demote. Is this not required? Also, auto-promotion is also possible, but not widely used. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:59, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
I never worked on auto-demote, so if that can be added that would be fantastic. Not so sure about auto-promote. Hiding T 21:06, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
    Added. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:59, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
  • There is a |photocat= parameter supported by the current banner. I have coded this into the new one, but it is not documented anywhere and I wondered if it was required. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:04, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
That's categorising images by workgroup through {{Comicsproj/Work group categories}}, isn't it? I think if we wanted to categorise an image requested differently, I probably stole it from somewhere and it never came in handy... I'll have to think about that, my memory isn't great. Um. I can't remember what the plan was back then, sorry. As long as the requested images still categorise per work group as per Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Comics/Archive_40#Category:Wikipedia requested images I think we're golden. Hiding T 21:06, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
photocat has now been removed. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:59, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
  • I've currently got two different implementations of the "subarticle" note. The second uses a single "mainarticle" parameter. Which do you prefer?
Check with Emperor. I don't mind. Or go with what you find most intuitive. Where are they both? Hiding T 21:06, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'll ask him. They are both in the sandbox at the moment. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:59, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
What's the difference between the two? (Emperor (talk) 14:00, 24 November 2009 (UTC))
Well, one of them requires two parameters |subarticle=yes and |subarticle-link=Comic whereas the other one only requires one parameter |mainarticle=Comic. So I recommend the second version! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:30, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh yes, the simplest one should ensure it is easier for people to use. (Emperor (talk) 13:46, 26 November 2009 (UTC))
  • Have we hit the limit on work groups? The meta banner goes up to ten, yeah? If we add more, do we just add more to the meta-banner? We're currently discussing adding an animation work group. Hiding T 17:54, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
There is a limit of 10 per hook, but you can just add another hook if you need. I have done this to show you how. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:01, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. :) Now another thing, sorry. The template is calling the redlink {{Comicsproj/importance}}. Is that something to do with allowing custom importance scales to be displayed in the nested version as discussed at WT:COMICS or something different? Hiding T 18:02, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
No need to apologise. Yes, the meta template now checks for an /importance subpage. I've just moved yours into there so can see how it works. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:14, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

To do

We don't really use our peer review so I've been meaning to deprecate that. The RFC=yes field is also deprecated. I don;t want to break it, but is it okay to edit this? Hiding T 12:16, 24 November 2009 (UTC) Done

Of course, go ahead. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:28, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, is there anything else that needs doing? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:02, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
There's the portal fields to do I think, and I think Fram was asking about displaying importance when nested. Hiding T 15:08, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
portal1, portal2 and portal3 parameters added. Nested importance is already sorted. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:33, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
I think we're likely good then. I'll just check at WT:COMICS. Hiding T 15:51, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Also, what happens if we turn on the sixth B-Class check? We have to re-assess don't we? How hard is it to turn it on? Hiding T 15:10, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Just replace "unused" by {{{b6|{{{B-Class-6|}}}}}}. Yeah, unless all 6 were checked, an article will be classed as C-class. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:33, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
    Cool, ta. Hiding T 15:51, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Project banner

Note: This template has recently undergone major revisions. If you spot anything which you think may need correcting, please feel free to mention it on the talk page.

The {{Comicsproj}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

{{Comicsproj
|small=
|class=
|importance=
|A-Class=
|attention=
|auto=
|cleanup=
|fiction=
|future=
|photo=
|infobox=
<!-- B-Class checklist -->
<!-- 1. It is suitably referenced, and all
major points are appropriately cited. -->

<!-- 2. It reasonably covers the topic, and
does not contain major omissions or inaccuracies. -->
|B-Class-2=
<!-- 3. It has a defined structure, including
a lead section and one or more sections of content. -->
|B-Class-3=
<!-- 4. It is free from major grammatical errors. -->

<!-- 5. It contains appropriate supporting materials,
such as an infobox, images, or diagrams. -->

General parameters:

  • small – "yes" if the banner should be rendered in its miniature size; this should be used sparingly and only on crowded talk pages for the time being.
  • class – a rating of the article's quality; see the assessment department for more details.
  • importance – a rating of the article's importance; see the assessment department for more details.
  • A-Class Currently reserved for future usage.
  • attention – "yes" if the article requires immediate attention; this should be used sparingly.
  • auto – "yes" if the article has been automatically assessed by a bot. Typically applies to stub articles only.
  • cleanup – "yes" if the article requires general cleaning up. Please detail what aspects of the article require clean-up on the article's talk page, otherwise the tag can be removed without redress to the problems.
  • fiction – "yes" if the article needs rewriting to maintain an out of universe approach per Wikipedia:Writing about fiction.
  • future - "yes" if the article contains discussion of comics that have been announced but are currently unpublished. Such articles should avoid recentism and statements that will date quickly.
  • photo – "yes" if the article requires an image, which should be added per guidance.
  • infobox – "yes" if the article needs an infobox added or updated.

B-Class checklist (available only for articles rated as "Stub-Class", "Start-Class", or "B-Class"—see the assessment department for more details):

Portals:

  • portalX-name – if the article has been selected for use on a portal, the name of that portal. The name should be given without any formatting or namespace prefixes; thus, Portal:Comics is given as "|portal1-name=Comics". Up to five different portals may be specified, via the parameters portal1-name through portal5-name.
  • portalX-link – the portal subpage location where the article may be found on the corresponding portal. This should be given as a pure unlinked subpage name; thus, Portal:Comics/Featured article/9 is given as "|portal1-link=Featured article/9".

Work groups (general topics):

Work groups (nations and regions):

Work groups (publishers):

Work groups (characters):

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
