Accidental revert[edit]

User:Redrose64: Sorry; I didn't notice you re-added the {{Improve documentation}} template – otherwise I wouldn't have removed it again with the same edit summary. I thought I'd simply forgotten to do it. My rationale for removing the template is that there's nothing that can be added to the documentation. It doesn't take any parameters (except two, and I don't know if they're supposed to be used or what they do). If you want to add details on those parameters, please feel free. However, I don't see what else can be added to the documentation. Regards, DesertPipeline (talk) 08:18, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reading through the documentation for the template this template invokes, I don't think the category and listas parameters are supposed to be set by someone adding a WikiProject banner to a talk page. DesertPipeline (talk) 08:21, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DesertPipeline: Well, at the very least, you could use {{WPBannerDoc}}, as in
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Ranulph Fiennes, use |listas=Fiennes, Ranulph so that the talk page will show up in the F's and not the R's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people § Ordering names in a category.
If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
per the docs of many other WikiProject banner templates. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 14:35, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:Redrose64: My apologies. I wasn't aware of this. I currently don't have time to do this; if you don't mind, could you go through my contributions and add that template to WikiProject templates I added documentation to? If you're unable to, that's okay. I can do it myself tomorrow. I'm not exactly sure how the WPBannerDoc template works though. Please ping me again if you're unable to do this to remind me to do it tomorrow. Thanks, DesertPipeline (talk) 15:59, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
